Trade deadline discussion

It’s not correct. Lebron is questionable every night. Literally. Anthony Davis has been for most of the season. And those guys actually matter in the league. Royce is a ****ing nobody.

If there is one guy that could help fix our attitude and give a massive bump to our defense its Marcus Smart... seeing us so lifeless at times leads me to believe its worth the downgrade in offense if we can get him.

He has a contract that will be a bit onerous... he'd cost a pick at least. I think a three team deal with JC going somewhere for an expiring and some minor assets could help us get enough. He has the energy that can be infectious and maybe lights a fire under the guys playing below their ability on that end.

Outside of that I think its kinda window dressing. You need a guy that is loud, energetic, etc. Again... its the guy we have lacked since Jae was moved.

Seems like he's getting Jimmy Butler exiled in Boston, which can happen if there's one ******* like Smart and the rest of the team doesn't care. But when you have a majority of Butler, Smart, Gobert personality types it becomes a winning basketball culture.

Basically... kind of like Chris Paul... he grates on guys like young Blake because he wants to win. It works sometimes and not in others... would provide some fire.

I think you could do JC to NO for Sato and some second rounders... add in Boston as a three teamer and they'd get the expiring deal of Sato... a couple seconds from NO... and a first from us. They are also like 3M over the tax and that deal would drop them below the tax. So some big dollar savings to consider... there are other ways to do that but it would be a meaningful benefit.

I’ve been hesitant on making a move for Smart but he’s the only gettable guy I think could significantly improve things. I’m not sure anyone wants JC but honestly, I’m wondering if losing Conley might be worth it. Smart doesn’t fully fix the small backcourt problem if he only comes off the bench anyway.

Size is part of the problem but its really just that we don't stay in front and let perimeter guys get too comfortable. Guys don't disrupt what the offense is doing... our steal and forced turnover rates are among the worst in the league.

I'm not above trading Conley but it likely causes more issues than it solves... at least this year anyway.

I liked the Conley/Clarkson for Brown/Smart move. We’d probably only need to add a couple Zupas franchises to grease the wheels.

On topic of the shortcomings of the culture and the over reliance on rim-protection:

If the Jazz can extract a 2nd-rounder from a team for Hassan, I’d do it. The dude just isn’t serious and isn’t a worker.

Could Marc Gasoline be signed in time for the playoffs?

I think Hassan is fine, great even at times, as the 12-15 MPG backup. Anything longer and he is almost useless. But he is better than, say, Doke would be for the same time. Arguable if Whiteside or Favors would be the better backup to take starters minutes for situations like this. I think I would still lean Whiteside. He follow the leader really, so as soon as our regulars start dicking around and not taking **** seriously his jackpotting quotient goes through the roof.

Whiteside is okay as an 8th or 9th man on a minimum contract. The fact that he has a presence at the rim and he rebounds well is enough for a backup. The problem is when guys rely on him to be Rudy.
