Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

A pick like the suggested Lakers trade netted us an All-Star (hayward) it also netted Ainge the two all-stars he built his last team around... I'm guessing he very much wants those picks.

There is no point to retaining talent that will hurt the tank and won't be under contract in a year or two.

We are seeing the difference in trade value for unprotected picks and protected picks right before our eyes in the Knicks trade. We'd rather have the far out unprotected pick than the protected picks (they'd willing part with).

Even if you don't wait the full 5-7 years... those picks have a ton more trade value. So if the core of this team is ready to go in 3 years you can use those picks to add something important.

Why would we gain an extremely valuable asset and help our tank when we can retain talent that hurts our own pick?

I also want to add that HH is spot on with that last part. Maybe we use one to move up in the draft or use one in a deal to get a star player when it is our time.

I don't know. I think the point is to win ~41 games forever, right?
I also think we get in a trap thinking if we don't help LA then no one else will... someone will benefit... we have a great offer. We should just go ahead and benefit even if it mean helping the Lakers.

Get the 2 to 3 unprotected NYK picks and two LAL unprotected picks and I don't care how many players are needed to do that. Go hardcore tank without regard to value. As soon as the tank this season is over then shift gears back to retain and build value going forward.

A Knicks page on Twitter posted the current Knicks offer is RJ/Fournier plus 2 unprotected picks and 3 protected picks. Not a credible source whatsoever only has about 4k followers but guys following it are acting as it means something. Not like we have anything better to talk about right now.
Just saw the same thing on a YouTube video from some New York Channel, I was going to post it but now I don’t feel the need to

It just feels so incredibly petty and immature to care as much or more about the misfortune of another team than the health of your own team. Not only do I want the long term prospects of this next build to be better than any team in history, I would actually be happy to facilitate Bogey (and Clarkson, and Conley) having a shot at a ring. I guess I’m the bad Jazz fan, though.

It’s a weird thing. It’s ok for people to root for Minnesota to win but heaven forbid we help out a team that is helping us out. That’s kind of how trades work.

This is actually my biggest complaint of Ainge: he seems to have a real antagonist streak. Feels like part of his deal-making is crushing his trade partner and I think that can quickly be counter-productive.

I also like that these spoof accounts are like "its going down this week!!!" At this point I will be somewhat shocked if it happens before Sept 6th. The three team deal almost surely woudn't happen until then.

He’s the most patient GM in the league which has its obvious advantages. With that being said just an ounce of compromising could potentially close this deal I think.

Hell, if you made a new account every single day until then you’re likely to hit once if you can get close to the actual details of the deal.

Ya- Lakers pay less than we did for Conley, yet they get Barrett as a throw-in haha!!

At this point in his career, it makes sense that a team would pay significantly less for Conley than we did. He turns 35 in a couple of months and played really poorly the second half of last season and in the playoffs. When you factor in his large contract, he doesn't have much if any trade value at this point.

Even with the devaluation of the FRP due to the Gobert trade, its surprising to see what kind of value a FRP can get you. It's really nice not having a GM who is trying to throwing in picks so the trade can have 2 winners, when really he just overpaid for everything.
