2014 Draft Combine

barefoot

randle 6ft 7 3/4
gordon 6ft 7 1/2
smart 6ft 2
exum 6ft 4 1/2

basically i was right on all of them except gordon. i predicted gordon to be 6ft 7 even ish. gordon came in tall. bravo. i'll take any of these guys except smart. trey & smart would be smallest backcourt in the league. i don't like small back court

Also I will never understand why anybody posts barefoot height numbers. The NBA lists their height with shoes and they play in shoes - or at least I've never seen a guy play in a Nba game barefoot.

the Dwight Howard Derrick Favors comparisons remind me of this. They have virtually the same measurables, as far as height, length, vertical jump are concerned. But is as clear as day that Favors is no where near Dwight when it comes to in game explosiveness. He's not getting his head up near the rim, hes not even close to as quick a jumper. Combine results are less than ideal when it comes to measuring athletic ability.

dwight was couple of years younger. dwight became a better athlete in his early 20's. packed on more muscle too

The barefoot heights give us a constant though. Not all shoes are the same height and there's always the rumors that players where bigger shoes to get taller.

Bloody freakin' hell; if he's going to draft a top-5 player and sit him on the bench, then I'll be leading the torch and pitchfork mob. Why did he just get rid of Corbin if the plan is to lather, rinse and repeat?
And why are they interviewing McDermott? There's likely no way to jump up from #23 to get him. Is there a plan in place to trade back? Or to take him at #7 if they fall that far?
With this and the coaching search., Lindsey has made my "watch" list. Seems like he's headed in the wrong direction.

See the sig.

It is too soon to know about Lindsey. Even after the draft we won't know that much. I am much more interested to see what kind of vets we add. I think that is what will show us Lindsey's true colors.

i ain't gonna look for it. it's in the draft thread. i basically said all year long randle is most likely 6ft 7 1/2 to 6ft 7 3/4. i said if he comes in at full 6ft 9 then pick him and don't even think twice about it. i'm almost always within 1/2 inch. good eyes i guess.

barefoot is important because you don't wear same shoes. some shoes like bron x give you more lift. it's the constant. and that's the only height that should matter.

anyway, randle is 4. he ain't 3. not at all. dude is 250lb. he is a POWER FORWARD. POWER. that's what he has.

gordon is a perfect swiss army knife. he will be versatile enough guard 3 and 4.

flip a coin. i like both.

I think that there is a misunderstanding why players get listed with shoes off and shoes on....

It not so much that shoes come in all sorts of different sizes. Because they are all pretty close to the same anyways. It is always listed because clarification is always needed. Someone will always wonder whether or not the height measurement was done with shoes on or shoes off. Its not like someone can just proclaim that all listings will be in shoes or without shoes, because inevitably someone not "in the know", will wonder and ask anyways.

Who cares that the listings come in shoes on and shoes off. Just go with it.

that's true

there are 3 different height listings

barefoot
with shoes
actual listing height

i just want some consistency. KD is barefoot 6ft 9, and listed at 6ft 9. kevin love was same exact height as randle at 6ft 7 3/4, but listed at 6ft 10! it's a joke if you ask me.

just give me a consistent listing, and don't fool fans. either all barefoot or all with shoe on. i know some dudes wear clown shoes, but at least that's better than some random listings that doesn't even make sense.

glen robinson will sneak in to 1st round with his athleticism. still hoping he falls so we can get him with our 2nd pick.

You guys who claim this is the reason that you need a barefoot measurement, miss the point. If player wears A 1" shoe and player B wears a 3" shoe and they are list both listed at 6'9", it doesn't matter what they are barefoot because they are both playing the game at 6'9". Sure when they hop in bed at night, player A is 6'8" and player B is 6'6", but none of that matters for the purposes of basketball. On the basketball court, they are both 6'9".

I can agree with this. Kevin Durant does not play basketball at 6'9". Not sure why they list him at that height. Pick one and go with it. My understanding has always been that they list shoes on height, but obviously that isn't the case with KD.

Do they play in the shoes they wear at the combine? What if their next pair has an inch lower heel? That's why barefoot is all that matters.

That's a fair point, but even if they play in a shoe 1/4" higher or lower, it's a more accurate height than whatever they are bare foot.

Barefoot measurements make the most sense, because they have the most potential for parity, in terms of comparison-purposes.

Sure, the game is played with in shoes-- but shoe heights are completely relative, and it's far-fetched to assume that footwear can be standardized across all of those who perform athletic measurements.

With that in mind, parity trumps logic in this instance, and barefoot height is more useful in my opinion.

But the player that plays in 1" shoes is going to be measured in 3" shoes if that's the only measurement. All of a sudden a 6'1" guard becomes 6'4" - and his draft position just went up quite a few notches.
