I'm not going to try to sit on advantages if I can't improve upon them. I didn't see any other move that would improve my position.

Taking with the rook did let me trade off both pieces and set me up for an easy win. Taking with the bishop would have resulted in my making the same move, but you would not be forced to trade bishops at that point. If you don't, the position comes out about the same as this one will.

I thought your strongest move was Be8. I had trouble seeing a way through a defense with the K on e7 and the R on d6. So, I think this was your second-best move.

I'm exchanging a central passed pawn for a more-easily-defended wing passed pawn.

you're right. My strongest move was Be8. It was something I had seen before, and when I made the King xe6 move I realized I had done something not as good as what I had seen before. But I made it. I think I still survive, and can possibly win.

So I'm going to hurry this game along, I have leave for my trip soon, as soon as possible. I'll have a few chances to sit down and move quickly in the next hour or so.

I haven't looked at your pawn push yet. I expect it will force my moves.

I disagree on the opinion that an a or h file pawn is "easier to defend", noting that a king standing in front , with the Bishops and Rook traded out, can force a stalemate.

We will make this a test of our opinions.

I have, however, already made a commitment not to put my King in that position.

It's a decision to go for the win, or lose tryiing.

I will want to study out things until I get back to my computer.

I might add some more comments, though.

Probably a fair question. The brain is not biologically a "muscle", but most sports involve significant intellectual skills.

A lot of folks might object to moving this thread into the "sports" realm, and probably most of the chess folks will be in the general discussion department.. . .

I would agree that, in general, it's easier for king to block a rook pawn when the king is in front of the pawn. Here, your king is on the other side of the board.

I fine with the chess thread in either forum.
 
It's also easier to block the pawn with any other piece, because you only need to control one side of the pawn, for example, restricting the King from the next file.

I have to figure out what manpower commitment it will take to stop you.

If possible, that is.

I was trying to explain to you why I moved my King away from the passed pawn in this case.

It was an alternative with practically no chance to win versus a wild chance for
a win ..

So, I'm back. Looking for some decent alternatives in this game.

Funny, looking at it now, it looks like this will be a done game pretty quick.
