Pelicans Game Thread

Just one game...

Oh wait, hayward kicked it up a notch and looked like an allstar? So we won???!!! Alright!

I like the way this team is coming together. I wish Hood would get healthy. It would be nice to see him get some experience this year.

This is a message board with opinions. Funny how you call me a sheep when you're agreeing with everyone else.

Well you know what they say about opinions.
if this team lost every game morale and chemistry would be hurting. You got to take the GSW route to handling this. Philly, Minnesota are teams that could be years behind. Would you rather look like them?

I didn't say I want us to lose every game. You're making assumptions now. And you know what they say about assumptions.

I merely want to have a chance to draft in the top-6 as we're not going to sign a star to this team VIA free-agency despite what some people wish. And we tend to draft much better than Philly & Minnesota - DL has a very good track record so far despite drafting Burke. Also, Milt Newton has made a lot of good moves since becoming the GM of the Wolves - so if they keep losing he'll likely continue making good draft choices as well as trades.

Why are people still saying this kinda ish? Even after games like that?!

Is it really that hard to understand? I'm really glad that everyone is so positive about the team, and they should be, but we still have two HUGE holes that need to be filled, and our level of success over the next 1-10 years depends on how we fill those holes. It's FAR from a given that they'll be filled adequately any time soon. As awesome as we are 3-5, we can only go so far with Band-Aid solutions at the 1-2. In two years, I doubt anyone is going to care about losing a couple extra games in a non-playoff year, but if we miss the next difference maker by one or two picks, and that leads to getting bounced in the first round year after year, fans will care a great deal.

Honestly, this attitude of just win as much as possible and then hope that God/luck takes care of the rest, just isn't very realistic. If it was, Rudy Gobert would be starting and playing 35 mpg, and Utah would trade Kanter/Burke +pick/s to upgrade one of/both our guard positions by the deadline. Then again, if Utah doesn't make a trade at the deadline and Gobert continues to be used other than our biggest impact player, I'm guessing our FO agrees with those who want to manage for the future, rather than focusing on winning every game this year.

Over his last 10 games, Gordon is averaging....

24 Points, 4.6 Assists, 5.8 Rebounds, and 1.6 Steals per game on 51%fg and 47%3pt.

remember when KoC said "My hope is that you aren’t booing in two years.”

well you were off by a few years, but here's to you Kev

For real man, who cares? I'm not going to to an extreme to explain but that "ruin the tank" bs is played out. Stop being a sheep. BAHH!

This. The sheep are the fans who are in denial over the fact that we have two STARTER positions that need to be filled. Sheep like to take for granted that everything will just happen for the best. Thank GOD we don't have a FO that thinks like that. #MakingShetHappen for the win.

I'm very happy that we have a team good enough that tanking isn't a given, but I'm even MORE happy about the way this team is being managed at this point. Nice balance between giving the current players hope of winning, while maintaining our chances to draft our next big piece. God I love the Millers and DL right now, and so should everyone else.

Really? You ever heard of a kid called Dante Exum? I have heard rumours about him being a future starter for this team, and a good one too. As a tank commander, why would you worry about filling the PG spot with a starter now when we have Exum on board? Following your philosophy, we should just continue to be bad until Exum is ready, right?

Wait, who is losing every game? Jesus Krist, Philly and Minny have a nice future, and a few years ago, YOU would have put GS in the same category, no doubt. Of course I'm going to bet on Utah's future, but anyone who yaps about Minny and Philly being crap, is counting on luck to make those predictions come true.. Both of those teams will be near the top of the league in 5 years. Booker it.

Don't forget that we have a bunch of other starters. As long as we're assuming everyone turns out to be a starter, how could you forget Burks and Kanter? Obviously we're sure to have at least 8-10 starters. Truthfully, not sure how we aren't contending this year. Next year is obviously the championship, since it's totally reasonable to assume every player will work out like we hope.

In reality, it could be 3 years before Exum becomes what we hope he will be. Maybe we should just forget about team building until all our players work out exactly the way we hope. Good plan.

To add on to my last post, Utah SHOULD be several years from contending. The difference right now is Rudy Gobert. He changes the equation from competing in 2-5 years, to going all-in next year. Why? Because having an impact player like Rudy on a rookie contract puts you in a great position to contend, due to the fact he's a legit starter giving you the chance to spend elsewhere.
-
Good news for all the anti-tankers who don't have patience with building a team. When you have a stud defensive starting center on a rookie contract like this, it gives you a big advantage in putting your money towards the other starting positions. Anti-tankers should have a big Rudy-boner in terms of what should happen next year.

I agree. We are past the full out tank time. We can't go back. We are too deep in the rebuild. We've played the tanking game, and look what it got us. This team needs a star sure, but sadly we have to go with plan B.
Hayward, and Gobert are the best players on this team talent wise. We just have to hope for a late lottery addition that makes us better. We've got to start learning how to win this year.

We may already be looking at our stars Hayward and Gobert! scout well for a teens pick and who knows, just dont match Kanter if more than 10-11mil- I happy to go Gobert,Favors,Booker bigs with a +1, sign Motum :)

I feel bad for the Pelicans. They really screwed up building their team by rushing steps. They would've been so much better off keeping their draft picks and not trading for Holiday and signing Evans for so much.
