What's new

"but I'm fully recovered now."

He was an 18/19 year old rookie coming from basically a high school level of competition. You talk about him like he was a seasoned fully developed out of college player at 24/25 years old with a year of experience in the NBA. Of course at 18/19 he's going to look physically overmatched at times. That doesn't mean he's mentally weak or soft.

Mental toughness does not happen with age. You either have it or not. There is tons of examples of players who were physically overmatched during their rookie year yet they showed mental toughness and killer instinct. Exum showed nothing in that regard. He is just too nice and too deferring to others.

He was plenty mentally tough on defense. Taking on some of the best players in the league, playing them physical and staying in front of them amazingly well for his age/experience. On offense they had better, older more mature players and maybe he was not successful attacking in practice. It's actually the opposite of mentally weak to realize your weakness or lack of success and play the way you can opposed to the Burke route which was never realizing you sucked at shooting and keep shooting anyway. I'd call that mentally weak before a perceived lack of aggressiveness.
.
Also claiming you cannot gain confidence/ mental toughness with age is a crock of ****. Hayward was called mentally weak a ton his rookie year yet I think he's fine with that now.

Ok how about we just revisit this topic in 3 years. I will gladly eat a crow if Exum turns into something.

No way he will ever sniff anything close to All star or first team defense. In fact I will bet he won't be resigned after his rookie contract is over. Predicted that correctly for Kanter as well.

The only reason Kanter wasn't re-signed was because he crybabied his way into a trade. I'm guessing you probably predicted he was such a crappy player, he wouldn't be re-signed, which clearly wasn't the case. Dante will be re-signed, and your opinion on him is looking iffy at best, consideration how Utah was playing with him starting, and how much they regressed without him.

And to be honest, it really sounds like you enjoy rooting against Jazz players, just so you can brag about how you're always right, which you clearly are not.

Kanter was not extended way before he started talking trade crap. Jazz just knew he would never play NBA level defense and they as well knew they struck gold with Gobert which made Kanter expendable and not needed anymore.
I don't root against Jazz players. Just didn't like Exum's overhype way before draft. I really hope he turns into something, but so far I doubt it.

Pretty sure that's not what you meant when you "predicted" the Jazz wouldn't re-sign hum after his rookie contract.

Said right after draft that he is a waste of pick and won't stay after his rookie contract is over.

You guys ignoring the fact that he is soft. He is fast yet very rarely drives in the paint and if he does he ends up knocked on the *** due to being so weak. He is mentally weak and is afraid of contact. Now coming of the major surgery he will be even more scared of contact. Even his speed is way overrated. Randy Foy had better sprint numbers than him for example. G. Hill was faster and stronger than him in combine and neither is elite athlete, so I laugh when Exum is called elite by delusional fans. Elite should be reserved to people like Westbrook, James, Ibaka, Rose ( before injury), Wall, Byombo and maybe few more. Exum is not elite athlete. Stop it.

Grant Hill wasn't an elite athlete...?
