Current Players NBA Draft Round 1: Grayson's Hands vs. ONE LOVE

Which team would win in a 7-game series?

A rookie starting really hurts Grayson's team. Rookies rarely help teams win games their first year. I expect Luka to be good but his first year I am not counting on him being much help. He might put up good stats but probably won't be helping his team win. But maybe he will prove that wrong.

As far as the rest goes one love is better at 3 positions, obviously harden is better and the center spot is debatable. So Grayson's only for sure better at 1 spot.

The benches are pretty close but I lean towards Grayson's bench.

Overall it's close but one loves team is slightly better depending on Porz getting back and healthy this year, which I assume he will.

So Doncic the most NBA ready prospect in the draft won’t help his team win and Porzingis will come back healthy.

Makes sense.

Why do I even try drafting a team with these dumb comments. We saw three rookies lead their teams in the playoffs this year. It’s Doncic for crying out loud.

That was in April. He's now training in Madrid and there's a chance he could be back by Christmas.

The operative word being a chance. It says they really won’t know till September. It’s also not good that he’s 7-3 and plays more like a sf. Recovery for that type of player is always a little more difficult. At the very least, he won’t be the same player this year.

The history of rookies helping their teams win is rare. Just because it happened in a historically great rookie class ( and one of them was a red-shirt rookie) doesnt mean it will happen again. Dallas will likely be a bottom 3 team in the West this year and I doubt Doncic really changes their games won that greatly, if at all. If Doncic was a bench player, Id look on it much more favorably. As a starter he is probably a liability against high level teams in a playoff situation. And you seem to have forgotten this is in the context of a playoff series because you argue that Lou Williams is a good player to have when the objective truth is that he is a terrible playoff player.

These are not dumb comments. The dumb comment is you ignoring historical context and citing a single season as your argument. Simmons/Tatum/Mitchell were all plus defenders as well, or at least had the capability of playing plus defense when called upon. Doncic will not have that to fall back on and you are pairing him on a team in a role he isnt use to as a tertiary ball-handler instead of a secondary one.

Yes, that is the most likely thing to happen. Most players return within a year from an ACL surgery. Most rookies, even the most "ready" ones don't help their team win. Those are pretty simple facts.

Most rookies are pretty hyped and don't succeed in the NBA period, let alone contribute to winning basketball their rookie year, especially ones that young. He is only 19.

Almost every team sacrifices winning to get lottery picks on the court. They show flashes and have great moments but overall don't make winning plays consistently.

Drafting Luka and other rookies is a big risk in these things. No one should start them. They might pay off in the voting next year, if you get lucky and they are the rare exception. Right now it shouldn't get you votes.

How many lottery picks last year helped their team win? 3? Or so? And that was an extremely rare draft class to have that many players help win. 2016 had 0 players help their teams win. Arguably Simmons would have but he was out hurt.

Didn’t Luka play pretty well against the USA team when he was 17?

I voted for Grayson's hands. His back court and bench is better. AD and Porzingis seems like terrific frontcourt but Is Porzingis even playing before All star break?

Gotta go with one loves big guy combo.

disclaimer: When i vote on these things i dont factor injuries at all.

How does anyone think Grayson's bench is better?

Lou, Melo, and Warren are very redundant as high usage scorers who are awful on defense (Lou is arguably the worst defensive player in the NBA, Melo is arguably in the bottom 10, and Warren is really bad too).

Add to that Warren cant shoot at all, so I dont see any reason for him to even play (so I personally dont count that much against him because in my mind most teams would do 8 man rotations for these things). Lou's ability drastically drops in the playoffs where refs dont fall for his cheap foul drawing tricks and the physicality picks up on both ends. I sill think Melo is a good player capable of being a very good bench player, but he kind of dropped the ball in OKC and I don't really trust him at this point given how uncomfortable he is without the ball in his mid-range isos.

So who's really impressing you on his bench? I still love Iggy, but he is getting old and his age started showing last year. I also don't think he is of great use in this series because the bulk of OL's team is concentrated as guards and bigs, so Iggy's ability to guard the top tier forwards isnt as big here.

Gortat is OK as a backup center, but he turns 35 this season and looks pretty washed.

The only thing I really don't like about OL's team is that he drafted Barnes/Gallinari/Portis when he did. Could have had a way better team with different picks. His team at least has some versatility though. I'd probably go with Murray/Matthews/Ibaka as my main 3 off the bench, but he could fit in Gallinari as a stretch 4, especially given how offensively challenged GH's 4's are.

Grayson really screwed up with his team construction. His optimal lineup is Dragic/Harden/Iggy/Green/Gasol. That's the lineup that can hang defensively with OL's team. The problem is that they don't have much shooting there. Gasol and Green can shoot a bit, but they arent consistent. I also don't know how either would fit with Harden's ball dominant offensive style. Both are use to being very involved in their team's offense through ball movement and facilitating. There is also no rim running big to pair with Harden, even off the bench, which is a huge key in making him successful.

Well Ibaka is more washed up than Gortat based on how he finished the season and his real age be 35 years + as well. If OL would have pre injury Matthews I would consider his bench better, but otherwise him and Galinari are just a shadows of what they used to be so that kind of balances out with what GH has in Melo. And Lou will win his matchup vs Murray any day. Warren and Portis are both irrelevant.

Just curious? Who? And were they 17?

Ricky Rubio. He did very well at that age against US players. He was older when he made his NBA debut but didn't help his team win. It took a few years for that.

Dirk outplayed Charles Barkley when he was 17 but then struggled as a rookie.

Tony Parker similar to above.

Darko Milicic was awesome for his national team at 17 and was a bust in the nba. He went toe to toe with current all star Pau Gasol.

The list could go on. Mostly I listed guys that had success later in the NBA but didn't help their teams win as a rookie, but there are also plenty of Darkos and worse.

Can you provide Links for Dirk Parker Darko?
