What's new

******* dads.

Do not injustice to another.
Defend the weak and innocent.
Let truth and honor always guide you.
Let courage find a life within.
Stand up when no one else is willing.
Act not in hatred or in spite.
Be to this world as a perfect knight,
Even if it means your life.

Simple words to say, but difficult to live by. You mentioned that you are already a grey sheep in the family flock and afraid of going black. To be honest, I was in a similar situation where a family member was did some... heinous things, both to himself and others. However, the rest of the family was defending him, saying he could do no wrong. I worked with him, coaxed him, and was as tactful as possible. When I stood up to him and gave him an ultimatum, he chose to continue down his road. As a result of my actions, I was ostracized, excluded, and eventually left out in the cold. That family member eventually died as a result of his actions and the family will STILL not talk to me.

But my conscience is clear and my actions were honorable. You cannot put value on a good night's sleep. I still have other family, friends, my wife, and a life that is (to me) worth living.

Do unto others, my friend. I hope this helps.

Great post.

Cliff notes in English pls.

(By someone who is not babe)

Babe thought you were LDS.

He expresses his view of the social dynamics of LDS culture, which involves a lot of gossip and keeping up appearances. Says that you can't really understand why the black sheep is the black sheep unless you're tuned into the gossip. Compares mormon culture in this respect to carnivorous feeding and says that piranhas eating chunks of meat might be more "christian" than the LDS gossip that establishes status within that culture.

Trout is a trailblazing renegade, willing to buck the system in pursuit of the truth. A man capable of doing right when right needs doing. Basically equivalent to one of Jesus's apostles. Even though there's an easy way out and acceptance by the unwashed horde...made up of people like you (UGLI) who have given up on living up to the true LDS ideals.

Then he starts in on some nonsense about cows giving birth to twins and how the momma cow smells the second one last and therefore cares for it more. Turns out his wife once had twins and because of smelling the second one last she cared for it and not the first one...but babe was true and pure and cared for both of them.

I've been called a lot of things in my time, most of them deserved, but this is harsh, bro.

Whoa.

You should write short stories like this and put em on the back of your beer bottles...

I actually mentioned to my wife that we should offer to let him into our home/lives, and she looked at me like I had three heads. She firmly believes he did those things and is lying about it; she is of the same mind as the father.

I'm telling you, either I'm missing something huge, or everyone I know and love is a hypocritical pooh finger.

Man, your family sounds like a trip. Listen to the "established" relative and damn their own blood because his dad just threw him under the ****ing bus. Has he ever given him a drug test? if he pisses clean I think that goes to show the kid is definitely staying far from any trouble. Instead your family is treating him like a problem child and a thug.

I have never tried coke either, I've done shrooms a couple of times, and I just recently started smoking weed again. The weed out here is fantastic.

I wish I could smoke weed. I got to do DOT Drug tests randomly.

What kind of jobs do you all possess to not get drug tested?

So basically Trout is a mormon Batman.

So this thread has taken two or three turns and occasionally comes back to the original idea. Here's my thoughts:
I've publicly stated that my kids will always be welcome in my home, regardless of what's going on. I've also said many things I wish I could take back, but I have a hard time seeing me being willing to kick my 17 year old kid out of the house.
Didn't Jesus say something about leaving the ninety and nine to go bring the one back?

It really is impossible to put into words that you'd understand, simply because of all the "family dynamic" that it involves, but to break it down to its simplest form, he essentially went against his VERY religious fathers wishes regarding certain aspects of his religion. Again, it was nothing bad, like premarital sex (bad, as in the context of this family), drugs, or alcohol abuse or anything like that. To break it down even easier, it is the equivalent to the son breaking family Republican tradition and registering as a Democrat, only with more fireworks. The kid was simply only doing what he has always done, tried to do the right thing, that would benefit everyone, and of course it blew up in his face and the father/family disowned him for it.
Ahh yes, that seems like a totally worthy offense to be thrown out of the house for.
