Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I am trying to figure out some comparisons for Ace and I have heard that he is quite similar to Jayson Tatum when he was coming out. For those familiar with Tatum in college, how similar was he to Ace? What other past prospects compare to Ace? Trying to figure out if I am missing something with Ace.

That Yaxel Lendeborg decision is a bit of a head-scratcher. I thought there would be NBA teams interested in snagging him with a 20-30 pick. Yes, he's 22, but the dude is physical with tons of talent.
with NIL i think we'll see more of these back end of the first round, early second guys stay in school - Philon and Pettiford to name a couple more in addition to Yaxel who chose to go back.

Updated my big board with Pettiford out.
Im really high on Fleming so I like where you have him (though it would suck for the jazz for him to be drafted there). Also like that Noah is right there around 21

I think of Ace as a more creative, more aggressive Trey Murphy. It's also fair to draw some comparisons to Paul George as a freshman at Fresno State, but you'd be giving Ace some benefit of the doubt in his handle and driving potential.

I just did a quick comparison of their basic stats and they are very similar. Could give a slight edge to either but I would say Ace stats are slightly better than tatum college stats. (didn't watch either play so I cant go any further than just stats)

From a raw stats perspective they are kinda close. If you go beyond the surface level they diverge pretty quickly.

This is what I want to know, because I can dig through data to find similar statistical profiles but I don't know how similar they are in terms of skillsets and play on the court. I'll need to dig through old college tape.

I am liking Demin more and more. He has a pretty high ceiling. Great measurables, he seems to be a hard worker. I do NOT think he is a PG but I think he can help initiate the offense out of the wing. I think he could be great at PnR. He is a little bit of a unicorn in his ability to do some stuff.

Watched some more VJ... Urgh... He makes me uneasy. Not gonna lie. He looks so robotic with pretty much everything he does. Not much looks smooth or natural on offense. Not he shot, not the handle... I have the sneaky feeling he will end up outside my top 5 at the end. He's like... the anti-Tre... And I can't believe it but I think I'm leaning Tre at this point.

VJ isn't built to overpower people like Ant Edwards or Donovan Mitchell. I actually believe in his ability to drive off the dribble, but his driving game, which I think is his main appeal, is likely to be more like a Monta Ellis or Collin Sexton just due to his build (190 lbs).

Yes, and I suppose he didn’t want to risk it and took the guaranteed money. His NBA dream might be over now, though.

To kind of expand on that, all of the major concerns people have with Ace, Tatum was just a lot better at. Mainly:

Getting to the Rim
Getting to the FT line
Feel/BBIQ
Shooting (people are fairly optimistic about Ace’s shooting, but Tatum was a much better FT shooter)

On the other hand, Ace was legitimately amazing at hitting mid range jump shots. A lot of people compare his shot making to current star players, and I kind of agree with them. But he has some concerns about some of the underlying skills/ability that these stars have. So he has the tough shot making of a star, but is very lacking in things that also make stars who they are.

It all comes down to his outside shot imo. If he becomes a good shooter then he is a really good player. If not then he wont be a good player.
Good news is his shot has looked great in the workouts and whatnot. He can probably work with coaches on it and gain experience and confidence. Im higher on him right now than at any point in the college basketball season outside the first 10 games or so.

With Ace, he just has such a long list of things to improve on which is both good and bad. I think he's unlikely to improve on so many things that he's a star, but he's also unlikely to not improve on all those different areas so his bust potential is low. I often like to look at these shot creator guys in an NBA role first, and I think he's kind of a mesh between McDaniels and Jabari Smith. His skill and athletic ability is more like Smith, but he has a little more crazy to him like McDaniels and if he channels that well he could be a good defender. He has aspects of both, but I wouldn't say he's the best of both worlds either. Has some of the weaknesses that one has but the other does not.

If he's a star, I think he does need to start out with a winning team that puts him in a box for awhile. I think it was really good for Tatum and Brown's development. It's also a dangerous game though because if they stay in that box, ego's will become a problem. We see Kuminga and his discontent, it's also easy to forget that Tatum and Brown were malcontent's in Boston with Kyrie and Hayward. I like him with PHI, do not like him going to a tanking situation like ours. The freedom we can offer is not what he needs.
