What's new

Game Thread Game thread calendar doesn't show a game today but we play the Nets

Added to Calendar: 01-20-23

There is a big difference between missing a star player and missing a starter. I'm just saying that we actually haven't beaten a really good team this year when they were at full strength. It is just a fact so it doesn't make any sense when people say we have beaten really good teams. This year because of injury there really aren't many teams that have been really good.

My point is you can say that about pretty much every team. Most all other teams who have beaten good teams have done so while the opponent was missing a key player.

Ingram hasn't played all season and the Pels were still the top of the West when we swept them. They only fell from that when they lost Zion as well.

The Grizzlies have been missing players all season and have still consistently been near the top of the West.

We beat the Cavs at full strength - they've been in a slump with Mitchell missing time but they still have the 4th best point differential in the league.

Ya teams can still be good even when missing key players.

Ultimately that's our issue we don't have anyone that can guard the perimeter. Top level guards in this league are going to continue to feast on us.

What I don’t understand is why we didn’t blitz Kyrie more. We did it once and it worked at around the 3:30 mark then never did it again and Kyrie proceeded to shred their defense. It made no sense to not try to get the ball out of his hands.

PS. Ben Simmons is trash. Lol

Because teams figure it out fast. Blitzing isnt a thing you can overdo or it becomes easily exploitable

And Simmons was one of the main reasons they won...

Doing it once and never doing it again isn't overdoing it. That one time led to a shot clock violation. At least let them solve it once and then do something different.

Instead the Jazz tried in the 1st half to switch Lauri to Kyrie - over and over. And it didn't work at all. Lauri can't guard someone like Kyrie so closely as to prevent him shooting it every time without being blown by. And in the 4th quarter the Jazz tried - over and over - to have Kessler get over the screen to get to Kyrie. And that didn't work at all.

Sure, you can't just stop Kyrie from scoring. But at least try something that has a chance of working. Now they just gave up the shot, time after time.

They did it more than once...

Agreed. THT on him might have been good too.
It's such a common sense thing that I feel the Jazz are tanking.

A few trades and we'll be good to go. As long as we're top-5 bad we have a chance at #1.

The fact we can potentially add a few 1sts to our stockpile while also having a chance at a top-5 guy is exciting. I would rather do this than get a play-in and lose early in the playoffs.

THT can't guard quick guards like Kyrie. His defensive strength is help D and on big physical wings
