Gobert...

The thing that I like about Carroll is that I think he could be effective playing next to either Hayward or Burks. Part of that is due to Hayward's versatility between SF/SG. . . but I think part of it is that DeMarre has worked his tail off to be a quality NBA starter.

I am not ready to give up on Burks or Hood yet. However, I think Trey and Kanter should be packaged to get another solid vet. I like Kanter's offensive ability but if he is still not running plays then he needs to go. I would rather keep him but the Jazz are thin in the front court so they need to go big in the draft if they trade him or aren't going to re-sign him.

Why would anyone give up on Hood already? A rookie who has missed a few games and when he's played he's showed a good effort on both ends of the court. Add a very pretty jump shot to this that I'm confident will start going in more constantly.

Gobert is about to be scouted much harder now that he is getting more minutes (even when Favors returns.) It will be telling if he can evolve to counter the scouting report.

I think QS will be on this and prepare him. Something to watch for.

You have to have someone big to defend him with unless you plan on doubling him. If teams start doubling Gobert, he becomes our most valuable player because we have no one else that demands a double. If you command a double team AND you play stellar defense, the world is your oyster.

I think that his potential impact defensively means that he clearly has a future as the starting 5. As such, I want them to figure out A.) if Favors and Gobert can play together. I personally think that this could be the best lineup with Kanter off the bench and another big in the draft (hopefully Towns or Porzingis) and 2.) Snyder needs to figure out how to make Rudy more valuable on offense. Just because he's strong defensively doesn't mean that he can't be valuable on offense. It's going to come down to system, coaching and development for them to get there. . . but if he can be a 2 way player, then the Jazz have a player to build around.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see people compare the Jazz getting Gobert in a similar light to how the Celtics got Rondo outside of the top 20. Players with that level of impact usually have to be drafted in the top 5-10.

I think we are starting to see the fruits of Snyder working with Rudy on O. He is starting to pass more and has driven to the hoop a couple times. Vast improvement over an alley oop and put back only offensive game. Still in its infant stages of development but clear signs of life are happening, imo.

I'm not as smart as the scouts, but I would think it has more to do with exploiting his hands, poking it away etc. Drawing fouls, bringing him out. I don't think opponents can do much about his length.

I have watched it with all of our youth. They are awesome for a while, then they are scouted and opportunities for easy plays that were once there are gone. It seems like there is always an adjustment period. Kinda separates the men from the boys when this takes place.

The obvious thing would be to just foul him, which works for most of the defense oriented big men, but Rudy continuing to improve his free throw shooting is a great developmental goal to help himself inside. He is moving along smartly in that area. As the defense improves, so will the ball movement on offense in getting him the ball where he needs it. Rudy's a handful when he is rolling to the basket.

Yes he is. 66.7% this year, that is almost a 10% increase over last year. If he can get that into the mid 70s then it makes the tactic of always fouling him to risky imo.

Thing I like most about Gobert, and there's a lot to like, is his attitude. He doesn't have the passive bitch attitude that Greg Ostertag seemed to have for much of his career (though on rare occasions Tag would show it...just never remotely often enough). He's hungry out there...it's great to see.

Same reason I like Booker so much, though I think he's trying to do a bit too much out there lately.

Gobert doesn't have to be doubled. He can be pushed off the block fairly easily, and doesn't have a face-up game.

So dumb. Kanter over favors. What ****ing world are you idiots from?

I'd rep this if I could. It's ridiculous how people can't see how good Favors has been this year, and easily our most consistent player

Yeah, we need to get him off of that diet of escargot and brie cheese and get him with whoever is feeding Hayward. . .

And his hook shot has looked like *** thus far. You just have to put someone in front of Gobert and he usually misses the shot/dunk/layup.

What is Favors doing so well? I actually noticed from box scores how inconsistent Favors is, at least in regards to scoring. Too many 6 pt games where he disappears. I am not too happy with either Favors or Kanter right now. Kanter seems to be making more of an effort though, and has improved as the season has gone on. Favors started the season with a much improved jumper that has disappeared. His rebound have been trending down as well while Kanters have been trending up a lot. Favors also does not create for himself, and when he does shoot off the dribble his fg% drops tremendously, where Kanters highest fg% is after two dribbles. The ability to create offense is very valuable for this team. Favors needs to have more fire on both ends of the floor. I don't see it happening. I still think Kanter has more upside, and would pair better with Gobert.

Not really. He's not as bad as you make him out to be. Most the time when he goes for the hoop he is fouled. He just doesn't make too many moves to the hoop. Maybe if he was given a green light to practice some things in game, he could get better. I say let him start shooting mid range shots, and more post up moves. I think it's worth the investment this year to teach him as much as possible instead of playing around him most the time. Doesn't really do any good to play around a guy anyways. It just screws up your offense just as bad as it would if included him more. It's not like we are doing anything this year anyways. Might as well make it a development year all the way. I'd bet we'd play better if we treated Gobert like he can play offense (even though I know he has a lot to learn). I just think he's worth the investment
