What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

It’s this kinda stuff that just blows my mind about the NBA. So a guy like Carmelo, who sucks *** now, but yet still has a huge contract. Gets bought out for the tidy sum of 27.9 million, and then turns around and gets to choose who plays for, as well as add another 2.4 million onto his already overinflated salary for the year.

I think it's great that Houston has replaced Ariza and Mbah a Moute with Melo. The D'Antoni/Melo reunion will be glorious.

Marvel, my fellow Jazz fans, at Carmelo's shot chart from the Jazz series.

You would wish this upon your worst enemy, and hey, it just came true!

My understanding is that anything the Rockets pay is to be deducted from any buyout this year from the Thunder, not an over-and-above. Or, does that just apply to waivers?

And if you needed more of a reason to hate The Rockets, they're trying to stick Capela with a contract that will make him about the 15th highest paid center in the NBA.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of Bismack Biyombo and Timothy Mozgov - but less than Enes Kanter, Joakim Noah and Tristan Thompson.

Not cool.

Does Sacramento still have all their space? Why don't they step up and do the conference a solid. Vlade could consider it a duty he owes DL for the Papagiannis debacle.

I believe they only have about 11 million in space now. I think the Knicks are the furthest under at 14.6 million and Cavs are just behind at 14.3.

Houston is banking on the fact that no one has cap space to make a decent offer. But I hope it bites them for not treating their own players with respect and offering a decent deal. Hopefully he just takes a 1 year deal and becomes a UFA next year.

Call me crazy, but I think Melo does so much better in Houston than OKC. With Westbrook, its hard to know when you will get the ball. Is there an offense? With Harden and Paul, you have two guys who can hit the open man.

Of course Melo is terrible defensively, but Capella is a better rim protector than Adams which should help Melo a little. Houston will simply have to outscore everybody which might be possible with Harden and Paul running a screen and roll with Capella with Melo standing in the corner.

They already had Anderson to stand in the corner or wherever and hit threes. I don't know that Melo is a better shooter and they are equally crappy defenders.

Melo has to do more than a guy that stands and hits open shots to help them.

So what are the options here, really?

1. Melo plays the 3. Lol. Ok.
2. Have him play the four and take away minutes from a hard hustler like Tucker. Genius.
3. Have him come off the bench. Lolzers. I’m sure he would love that it would be excellent for chemistry.

You guys are underrating Melo. Comparing him to Anderson is an insult. PJ Tucker and Melo will combine to play SF and PF in what has become a largely positionless NBA.

Melo can still score in multiple ways. He was a bad fit in OKC but could be key in spots for a team like Houston.

I am surprised to find somebody who feels similarly. To Melo I could see there being a large difference between playing with Russ and playing with CP3.
