What's new

JR Smith - when you're in Utah people shout the "N" word.

Tell that to the Eagle's WR who was yelling it a country concert.

Fine. People in Utah casually shout the word ****** at the top of their lungs like it's no big thing. I don't know why I'm even debating such nonsense.

JR is just being a drama queen. If racism were rampant at games reporters would be all over the area with mics because they would get mad traffic. Reporting racism=instant attention. I have only heard two white guys say the n word in my entire life in Utah. I have always had black neighbors both in Utah and in Vegas. I have never witnessed them being subject to racist remarks. If we believe all the reports in this thread, it happens at 0.5% of Jazz games.

Contrast this comment with Dwill saying UT is better than NYC for families. Would he really say that if there were rampant hate everywhere?

I'm not saying that there is no racism, I'm just saying I have only heard two people tell bad jokes and never witnessed a black person receive racist remarks. The tiny percentage of the population that is racist are too big of cowards to put it out in public, because they know how much the rest of the world disagrees with them.

The response to this thread is proof of how frustrated we get to be stereotyped and judged.

I don't disagree, but JR is reaffirming in the rest of the league's mind a false perception of Jazz fans, giving people the impression that this is commonplace. It becomes another useless factoid propping up the "dude, everyone knows Jazz fans are classless racists" notion and then usually couple that with a reference to Derek Fisher.

I'm skeptical the N word itself has been shouted like that (or at least with any kind of frequency or without retribution), but I don't doubt for a second that other, less-obvious epithets are exercised frequently

I was on the 2nd row for the loss to the pelicans last night. have also spent significant time in the middle lower bowl, and nose-bleeds. I have never, ever, heard a racial slur being thrown out. FWIW

I hate to say it but its 100% true. It makes me ****ing sick to hear some of the things that idiots yell. I hate hate hate anything personal or derogatory yelled at sporting events. I personally even don't like things as mild as "you suck", its just stupid to me.

I've said some unseemly things at refs and players but there is a certain line that I think you don't cross

You have heard people yell the N word at games? As far as "you suck", I have heard that too, many times. And I don't like that either.

I don't really like it either but when drinking at a game that you are passionate about and invested in sometimes certain phrases come out, like you suck to the refs.

I remember getting a chant going at a rockets game. "Scola's greasy" clap clap, clap clap clap, "Scola's greasy"
Rinse and repeat.
It was hilarious.

That was back when they had some contest at a movie theater where you could win season tickets by going in all your jazz gear and showing your "fanness"
The people who won were put in a section together and called "the rowdies"

I like that idea and wish they would bring it back. They helped keep the crowd interested, and rowdy

That could've been me, I've been known to yell that (shut up) usually at refs but every once in awhile when a player shoots FT's.

So because Cooper with the PA Eagles said it, who went to FL Gators that means UT fans who attend the games that are by majority white said the word, yeah ok sure.

Also anybody who went to the Jazzfanz night out many years ago knows that one of my friends who attended had several too many to drink said the F word and he was warned the first time and by the 2nd one they escorted him out. Also yes I stayed, finished watching the game, I warned him too cool it and that we would stay and finish the game.

I have been thrown out before too and I never said the N word. That's going to far and I would assume anyone yelling that loud enough for the players on the court to hear would get removed from the game

I wish people in Utah will not say n words. Please learn from ancestors it not nice. I hear in Utah everyone can say" you "n" word!" And everyone can laugh and point. I hop if I can come there no one can say you mean words for me. This is my thought as
No thank you.

I'm not shocked it's coming from him. He's a pos liar with an extreme lack of character
