What's ****ing retarded was giving up expiring contract for him in the first place, when we already had a much younger and already better player in Hayward playing the same exact position. Talk about complete and total idiocy: taking on additional 8 mil of salary in the year when we are actually under the CAP and limit the opportunity of already superior young guy in favor of a scrub at the same time. Now, that's ****ing retarded. The fact Marvin will actually waste 8 mil by not playing next year is actually a good thing: at least he will not waste Hayward's playing time, like he did last year.
Agree. I also think he could have done much, much better had Ty given him a few plays. Marvin is actually a pretty good shooter. But all he could do was stand around and watch the ball go in to Al and never come back out again. Between that and playing alongside Randy, who never saw a shoot he didn't like, afforded Marvin few opportunities to score.Marvin was brought in for his defense at the SF where Hayward is often over matched physically. Marvin was also a knock down 3 point shooter in 2011/12 and we had just ended the year as being the worst in the league. It made sense on paper, but Marvin didn't pan out.

Six months and then it will take some time for him to get back in basketball shape. I predict he won't be playing significant minutes until January. But he's an expiring contract so that may come into play at the deadline. Likely won't, because the Jazz can simply assume contracts, which is WAY more valuable than trading an expiring, especially to teams needing to avoid the tax penalties. From today's Deseret News: Marvin Williams underwent surgery on Monday in Charlotte, N.C., to repair damage in his right Achilles heel. The Jazz small forward is expected to be out for six months, according to the team.

.@CSNNW Report: #Jazz F Marvin Williams has declined early termination option, will return to Utah for 2013-14 season https://www.csnnw.com/article/williams-declines-termination-option-will-return-jazz
This shouldn't suprise anyone.
For whatever reason when i first Read "decline" i thought he wasnt coming back. Damn.

Since he declined early termination, doesn't that immediately make him a part of the roster, and thus someone who we can trade in a deal to move up in the draft? Not that anyone would want him, but doesn't this make him eligible before the moretorium?
I think Marvin will greatly improve next year. He could possibly be a good 6th man.
