What's new

No lunch for Huckabee, Is it the same?

While I doubt this will become a trend because ultimately restaurant owners aren't going to start turning away customers with different political views than their own (because capitalism), I'm not crazy about things like this happening. We are really struggling to maintain a sense of civility in this country, and paybacks to prove a point don't help to mend divides. Still, I must admit I chuckled at first.

It would have been better if she had mentioned this on her personal social media instead her government account.

Civility?

For years the GOP claimed that the twice elected POTUS wasn’t an American citizen because he was black. During one SOTU address a republican yelled, “you lie!”

The 2015 primary campaign featured a host of republicans talking about their penis size, bashing the faces of women candidates, and claiming that women moderators were bleeding from their “wherever.”

Over the past few years one side has consistently bashed entire races, retweeted KKK members and Nazis, and openly called for the imprisonment of political opponents.

But heaven forbid a restaurant owner deny the mouthpiece of this admin a meal. How dare a restaurant owner judge someone not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I think if we are just noticing the lack of civility in our society, then we’ve been asleep for far too long. If we think that this is indicative of where we are, then we’ve missed out on nearly 3 years of incivility far worse than some restaurant. Hell, kids are in cages as we speak. If we think that being nice to the fascists in our country is going to fix the incivility, then we need to study history.

You don’t compromise with fascists, you fight and beat them. At some point the GOP is going to have to realize that most of America isn’t going to put up with their BS.

You don’t get got reat reporters like this and then just a day later bitch about civility after being denied a meal. Sounds like republicans want to be able to act uncivil to others while forcing everyone else to act civil towards them. That’s not how this works. Watch 1:09-1:15.

Let’s be honest, this is more about repubs desiring to shut up opposition while they continue along their incivil ways rather than any genuine calls for greater civility.

Let’s just remember, we are less than one week past Huckabee Lying to the entire nation claiming that children being separated from their parents and placed in cages wasn’t something that Donald could stop. She insisted that only Congress could fix it.

Yet what happened once the political pressure combined with protests became so great?

To me, desperate times call for desperate measures. We’ve never seen a regime this immoral, this cruel, and this tone deaf.

You’re so lopsided it’s boring. The two party system has turned us into political hooligans.

I don’t think it’s the product of the two party system. It’s more the product of a brainwashing apparatus that the now fascist GOP uses to create an alt reality for their side. That’s the #1 problem with the GOP today. That’s why moderates don’t exist in the party anymore. Fox News and am radio have created such a radical and uncompromising alt reality that it prevents moderates from having any significant say.

The more radical you are, the more delegates you’ll win in the primary. Once you win the primary, you can depend on the alt reality apparatus to pump out propaganda.

There’s no reasoning with today’s GOP. It has more in common with fascism than traditional conservativism. It has more in common with Hitler than Buckley.

There’s no reasoning with anyone! Both parties have been swimming in shady business for years! The changes needed go deeper. For one, change the electoral system. It’s embarrassing that HC and DT were our effin choices these past elections.

Absolutely not.

Both parties are not the same. It’s not even close.

Candidates weren’t the same either. Clinton vs Trump, not the same, at all. One was clearly unqualified for president. He won, with the help of Russian collusion and an unfortunate act by Comey.

And before you go there, don’t try talking about “the media.” The left has nothing close to Fox News. Nothing.

Think about the two parties. Policy on:
  • Energy
  • Environment
  • Foreign policy
  • Taxes
  • Entitlements
  • Education
  • Social justice
  • Civility
  • The media
  • Compromise
  • Marriage
  • The economy
Couldn’t be any different between the two parties. Both aren’t near the same suckage.

Ugh, okay. Not playing that game. Have fun.

Ok. Well you brought it up. Not sure what you were expecting.

Don’t come on here and do battle with a historian and think that your “both sides are at fault/the same” pathetic argument is going to hold up.

Both sides ARE NOT the same.

One side has become a fascist party. It refuses to compromise. It refuses to govern as a representative democracy. Its fine giving up its checks and balances to empower an tweeting autocrat. He’s attacking our institutions daily. This fascism is forcing authoritarianism down our throats.

So don’t come on here with your anti-clinton vitriol and baseless arguments that “both sides are the same.”

Clearly, they aren’t. And if you can’t see that then you’re not worth arguing with. Stick to World Cup posts @Jazzta

Try harder, you almost got me.
Boring I say...

A different viewpoint to my own "centrist liberal" position for civility, but one that is worth reading for the viewpoint of the more liberal crowd. Something to think about.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/in-defense-of-incivility/ar-AAz84NI

A certain class of centrist liberal was upset by this supposed affront to civility. The Washington Post editorial board wrote that current history doesn't justify uncivil behavior, and Sanders "should be allowed to eat dinner in peace." Former Obama adviser David Axelrod tweeted that he was "appalled" at people celebrating Sanders getting kicked out. The Atlantic's Conor Friedersdorf suggests that such incivility increases the likelihood of a Trump re-election.

This reaction is silly, and it divides the opposition to Trump for zero political gain.

He's right. Both parties are different sides of the same coin. It doesn't matter which "party" is in power, the same stuff goes on and the fighting and bickering continues.
There is very little difference in what goes on when there is a regime change despite the promises.
Both sides are messed up, and something big needs to change for there to be actual change.

Go ahead and respond and do your "historian" thing.
This is what I know and have seen. I won't read your completely skewed post if you make one.
Just know there is a big problem here, and your viewpoint is just as much part of the problem as the "GOP enemy" viewpoint.
It's all a mess.

get the **** out of here with this false-equivocating non-sense. One party wants to let gay people get married, and continue business-as-usual austerity neoliberal politics that only protects the interests of the upper classes.

The other party is throwing children in cages, and carrying-out Muslim bans-- spearheaded by a rapist in office and white supremacists surrounding him.

There is no equivalence. Your post is filled with just total vitriol and obvious lies. Hillary was trash, the Democrats are by-and-large total trash. I don't think I would have voted for her in the general election. However, there is no equivalence. None of your "both sides!" posturing will change that-- and if you helped vote in this administration, the blood and tears of those children is on your hands.

--

Every public individual who has enabled any of these atrocities, from Sarah Sanders to Chuck Schumer, deserves to be publicly and non-violently shamed. End of story. I'd even consider booting Bernie out of a restaurant if he didn't come down hard enough against ICE. **** these bootlickers and their insanely insulating privilege.

One party is for gay marriage...

Well, that party's two major mouth pieces were (Hilary and Obama) were both against gay marriage until it became convenient for them to support it over politics.

The lopsided blinders, close-mindedness, and obsession of people today becoming outraged because of the media is sad. It's the people with the far left/right mentality e.g. Thriller/Dutch that will start a civil war in this country. Fake outrage is the new drug.

Ok, thanks for sharing. Clearly I disagree with you, and you disagree with me. It's not posturing, it's truth. I don't care if you agree with me. It's all about power, money, lies and both sides have been party to atrocities for years and it's all wrong. Go ahead and feel one party is more messed up than the other, I don't care, one of them is more in your face right now so it's understandable. Both parties platforms are like their facebook lives. They only show what they want you to see, or what they think will get them likes/attention/votes.

Posturing, bleh. You are posturing. You don't even live here, geez. Take your posturing and put it to use on some Canadian politics board. You don't even know me and pretend you can state I'm posturing. Why don't you take your false outrage and hit the road.

Yeah, it's not like the left has ********* like Time, CNN(I read it every day,) Salon, Vice News, Buzzfeed, Slate, the Young Turks...

Even sites like Huffington Post and Nytimes, which I read regularly, have some bias and narrative driven **** like Fox News.

The MSM have people like you by the balls are are banking on it. Keep denying it though.
