What's new

The Mike Conley trade was the biggest failure in Jazz history

It is mortgaging the future if you think about the number of picks we gave up just so we can pay Conley's bill in the last three seasons.

We gave up like what? Seven 2nd round picks and two 1st round picks just so we could save a total of 10mil in cash?

And we've paid Mike Conley a total of 90mil since 2019

Agreed and to say Bogey sucks is not true he had a good series. Conley sadly has regressed an incredible amount I can’t believe he was an all star last year. I felt we were better without him this series and I actually think Trent Forrest would have outplayed him
It's a shame forrest didn't get to play this series. It's like Quin prep him specifically to guard Jalen Brunson

The toxicity of his 60mil contract was massively underrated. Paying a guy 90mil across three seasons is a huge investment no matter how you look at it.

Memphis loved him there but they might've come to the point where they had to give up picks/players just to have other teams take his contract off of their hand for their rebuild. It was clearly a bait and the Jazz bit on it.

We could've gotten Chris Paul for the Conley package.
Add a few more picks and Jrue could be ours. All we needed to do was to wait one more season. Zero reason to take the all-in approach in 2019. ZERO.

Rudy and DM were still young and had multiple years left on their contracts.

The best PG targets in 2019 were Teague, Kemba and Conley. No description needed.

The Jazz should have done the Conley trade a year earlier.

Why? So they could pay Conley a total of 120mil across 4 seasons? That mIKe cOnLEy?

Well first he's never a good fit next to DM and never been that caliber of a player to worth that contract. Just how many more picks/players do you want the Jazz to give up so they could afford to pay that kind of money? Mortgaging our future?

What future?
Y'all are such babies lmfao. You want to live in a world where we are perpetually hoping for a better future by not making bold moves in the present.

The Jazz made their moves and missed. Injuries suck. Aging sucks. It's all unpredictable. Jazz should move on.

The funny thing is that the Conley play had little impact on the Jazzs ability to win the game and the majority of the blame should be on Quin for not calling a TO
Coaches rarely call a TO if a transition opportunity presents itself. Conley had a number of options to pick when the defense wasn't set yet, he just made a dumb mistake. Someone was way open in the corner, Rudy was rolling hard, he could call the timeout himself when he felt he got stuck.
