whats wrong with this world

Cool.

I think the first thing I'd do if I were to move to a foreign country is learn the local language. Makes sense to me.

I do not see any problem with that. For example during my citizenship test here in Canada, they kicked out Asian dude who could not even speak a single word in English or French. He came to try to pass written citizenship test and since he could not even communicate with officer he was not allowed to even take it. Most of countries have national language test law if you want to become a citizenship.

Did you check out the story?

They were talking about deportation not lack of citizenship.

Well, if I I understood correctly that it is the only way for them to legally stay there - which I have no problems either. They either need to get work permit/visa or otherwise legalize their status there. They need to respect Netherlands laws and if they entered country illegally then they should be deported ( and I do not care if they muslim, jew or atheists)
As an immigrant myself who spend thousands of dollars in different fees, waited 3 years for visa to legally enter and live in Canada I have no sympathy for those who try to do it illegal way in any other countries. Respect the law and you will be respected as well.

Why is a language law necessary? Why is such a law just? Where is the danger? This is just xenophobia. It is one of the seeds of nationalism.

Why do all these people want to move to countries where they can't communicate with the majority of the population? That seems like hell. If I was moving to Mexico for the rest of my life and I never learned Spanish that would be a horrible existence.

Well, the truth is, and they actually have real data for this now because of being able to track cell phones, must people spend 95% of their existence in a 4 sq. mile area from their homes. So what would it matter for somebody that could find an enclave of people speaking their base language in a foreign country, if within that community they could find the money/accommodations to keep afloat? Especially older folk whose job prospects don't really have any chance of improving regardless. In your above scenario, you could easily find a corner of Mexico with enough white/English speaking people and not give a rat's *** about speaking the language. Ideally you would want to just to immerse yourself better, but I don't think it's necessary. The lady in that video appears to speak Urdu though, and I'm damn sure there's not a huge Hindi-Urdu clique in the Netherlands so you would think she would absolutely have to learn the language to have any semblance of a life.

It is an important issue because Western countries are killing/not having babies and their welfare ponzi schemes are going to fall apart unless the floodgates remain open. But people that don't know the language can't possibly carry that tax burden. You need immigrants that are able to climb up the ladder, not be stuck in the lower end grind.

To become a citizen of a country I think it should be required to have a passable ability to speak the dominate language of that country.

I do not think we should deport them simply based on language.

Nationalism is not in and of itself necesarily bad. If it is controled and used in a positive way it can be a good thing. When it runs rampant and unchecked, like most things, it can become a real danger.

I think this is somewhat relevant to the whole discussion of assimilation/lack of assimilation, though of course there are other issues at play:

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/26/new-york-schools-segregated_n_5034455.html

NEW YORK -- The nation's most segregated schools aren't in the deep south -- they're in New York, according to a report released Tuesday by the University of California, Los Angeles' Civil Rights Project.

While segregated schools are located throughout New York state, the segregation of schools in New York City -- the country's most heterogeneous area -- contributes to the state's standing. Of the city's 32 Community School Districts, 19 had 10 percent or fewer white students in 2010. All school districts in the Bronx fell into that category. More than half of New Yorkers are black or Latino, but most neighborhoods have little diversity -- and recent changes in school enrollment policies, spurred by the creation of many charter schools, haven't helped, Orfield argues.

But that's the essential story of any place that claims to be the mecca of cosmopolitan living. It's all a big lie.

I think it shows respect to the country you chose as your new home. To learn its history and language.

So a just nation imposes laws for the sake of opinion? How do these posts address my 3 questions or any one of them?

Why? Because they require that they be fluent in the language of the country the wish to become a citizen of? Good. Doesn't say they cannot speak their language or be proud of their heritage. Just that they have to have the ability to speak the dominate language of the country they are trying to join.

When I lived in Honduras it was my responsibility to learn Spanish. Not for them to accomadate me and learn English.

Edit: The ban on face veils in France is dumb.

What a chest thumper.

The danger is that eventually country can lose it's national identity and immigrants overtaking control. The danger of chaos and anarchy within country. The danger of civil war and so on.

Isn't Mel Gibson in that movie?

Not going to lie, that made me laugh.

For me I am talking about citizenship, not deportation or the right to immigrate. I am fine with a person moving to a country and not having the ability to actively converse with the public at large.

Just feel that to become a citizen of that country they should have the ability to speak the dominate language. Further tying them to that country they are seeking to official join. I think it would be a good idea but I am not actively calling for it.

Edit: I am against deporting them based on language.
