What's new

For those of you who don't like Jimmer...

Jimmer mutilates Wofford with 32 and 8. His change of pace drive is just as impressive as his jump shot.
For the record, DWill's best tournament game was 22 and 10.

Jimmer appears so lazy and disinterested on defensive end that it's really difficult to like him. When he doesn't have the ball it appears like he becomes a spectator.

He was a better defender at a freshman and sophomere as a role player. I expect it a coaching tactic to keep him out of foul trouble and to preserve his energy for offense.

Holy ****... "mutilates Wofford" !! They're brimming with NBA talent! Jimmer is a sure fire #1 pick this year/NBA HoFer/next MJ!

"Kevin O'Conner...Jerry Sloan (aka Ty Corbin)... sign this guy for the rest of the season! He ....has.....proven....his......worth!"

There's value in having a guy who draws a double team no matter where he is on the floor and draws a triple team once he dribbles inside the 3pt. line. He just needs someone to pass to.

Finally, someone who sees my.... I mean Jimmer's true value.
I'm glad you have finally come to your senses, and I expect an official apology.
Would you rather do this by PM to save you some embarassment, or is Ch-5 ok?

I don't think Jimmer has blatantly bad defense. I thought he did a good job with the zone defense BYU was running. And he has the ability to fly past defenders, so I don't know why people call him slow. I know things are a lot harder in the NBA, but I don't think those things will be career shattering for him. I mean, if Carlos Arroyo is still in the league.....

Anyone here think Jimmers play against Wofford is a representative example of who he is as player? He shot 10/25 IIRC... He didn't look NBA to me at all. The truth will come out in NBA tryouts.

Barnes must suck too. He certainly didn't look like an NBA player to me when he went 0-12 against Minnesota earlier this year. Is Minny even in the NIT?

I don't know about you, but I'll take 32 points and 7 assists anytime from my PG. Especially when my PG has no post presence or bench and is being denied the ball 7 feet behind the 3 pt line.

29 points, 4 assists, and 46 percent shooting over the entire season might tell you a different story than what you're trying to portray anyway.

Ute homers need to give this **** up. Jimmer kicks ***. You and I both know it. Whether or not he's worth a top 10 pick, we'll soon see. But you all know he'll be in this league. Can't be any worse than any of those other good shooters/weak athleticism white dudes Steve Blake or Mike Bibby. Hell, Carlos Arroyo still has a job in the NBA folks.

Can we use the same excuse that was used when duron didn't play any defense?

Perhaps *gasp* Jimmer is conserving energy to run the offense? If he doesn't assist or score, the offense doesn't work.

I would also like to add that BYU plays a 2-3 zone most of the time. So duh, Jimmer isn't going to be running all over the place trailing his man. In zone defenses, you cover areas, not people.

Some of you need to take a bball 101 class, seriously.

I have doubts Jimmer will attract double teaming in the NBA. I reckon the likes of Price and Watson would be enough to guard him. However he will be deadly when left wide open as 2nd or 3rd option in second squad.

Saw Jimmer for the first time yesterday (I live out of country), so take this as a sample size of one game. But I think his offensive game doesn't really remind me of any of the names I've seen thrown around (House, Bibby, Steve Blake, Mark Price) who turned out to be NBA material because of their catch-and shoot games. JJ Barea might be the better comparison, but Jimmer is bigger & slower. Who Jimmer's game really reminds me of is Brandon Roy or even Dwayne Wade (if you ignore his obvious size/athleticism/defensive ability disadvantages and perhaps shooting advantage). This is in the sense that these are all extremely ball-dominant players. They're primarily giving their team value when they have the ball in their hands and very little without it. And they are each extremely patient and creative offensively with the ball in their hands and really know how to use both change of pace and spacing on the floor. It also seems like their passing ability depends on their being able to create defensive spacing problems through their ball-dominance. They're not great passers otherwise (maybe even Jimmer less so than the other two -- even his capable passing out of double/triple teams last night looked like it might not work on the pro-level as the passes were just delivered too slowly). Without the size and athleticism, I see why it really seems to be a crap shoot as to whether that translates to the pros.

JUs plain stupid. In college dwill was a lock down defender and infact in 05 when illini was making run he shut down salim stoudmaire,Francisco garcia and rashard mccants. ALl nba players at one time. When jimmer locks someone down let me know. DEfense is played in college and in nba not till 4th quarter. So if you want to rip dwill atleast lets compare em in college where dwil lwas a lockdown defender too.

Deron? A lockdown defender? Against who? Salim Stadamire? Who does he play for?

Duron was a horrible defender most of the time. The problem is, many of you had the blinders on.

Many of you cheered at his "leadership" as he embarrassed Hayward on that fastbreak.
Praised his "leadership" when he threw AK over the bus.
Supported his throwing the legendary coach under the bus about film breakdown, practice, and finally, the Bulls game.
Many of you tore up Boozer for not putting forth effort, and ignored Deron's walking the ball up the court, going one on one, and completely ignoring the coach's play call.
How many times did we rip Memo for his defense while ignoring duron getting smoked by so many other PGs?

The truth of the matter is, for most of his time here, Duron was treated with kid gloves. There was a double standard. But when he started hinting that he'd leave, when the coach finally left, and the team still sucked, FINALLY some of you came into the light.

The point is, no one in the NBA plays defense. Especially PGs. All PGs at one point or another get torched by the others. So in reality, I can care less about a PGs "defense." That shouldn't be a real deterrent. Can the guy run the offense? Shoot? Spark the offense? IF anything, Ronnie Price has been our best PG for defense over the past 3 years. Yet, because of his terrible offense, he's continued being the 3rd stringer.

Jimmer is an NBA player NOT because of his "lockdown capability" which doesn't exist. But because of his amazing offense. He might not be a franchise PG. Maybe he'll be a hall of famer? Who knows? Could you imagine what you people would be saying about Stockton today? Too small, didn't play against a good conference, too white, a good shooter but a crappy defender, not athletic, etc.

But I think most decently objective people can see the talent Jimmer brings to the floor. For the Jazz, I see him as a 6th man. The best shooter we've had since Korver... Or hornacek.

Which, BTW, we're missing Korver a LOT more than KOC will admit.

That's funny.... and is just a lame attempt at discrediting anyone you don't agree with.
They like Jimmer, or BYU so they must be a homer.
If a BYU fan says good things about their team or a player on that team they are a homer.
If that fan says "I don't think they will go far", then that fan is smart, and has perspective, bla bla bla bla.
If a Duke fan thinks their team is good and can go far in the tournament, does that make them a homer?
Whatever makes you feel better.

Who cares if someone has a different opinion... it doesn't automatically make that person a homer.

/soapbox lecture

Carry on

Opposed to the racist/hater "observations" of Jimmer?

He plays for BYU?
He's white?
He's Mormon?

Those 3 have all been used for reasons not to draft him. Good thing those are objective, right?

I haven't seen anyone proclaiming and guaranteeing that he's going to be the best player on earth. But I do believe he's an NBA player, which is what I was arguing before if you'd look a post or two back. He's worth a draft pick outside of the top 10.

Just because he's white doesn't mean he sucks.

Just because I'm a believer in someone that is averaging 29 points in the NCAA and is easily the best shooter in the country doesn't mean I'm a homer.

Haha... I never said I didn't like the guy on the Jazz, I'd be cool with it...let's just don't go so far as to use one of our lotto picks to get him. That's all I'm saying. If KOC can drop down a few notches out of the lottery (ie. 21-25) and pick up some other assets or money in the process and get Jimmer in that later stage in the draft, then I'd consider it a win for us! Now, if we miss the playoffs and use our 13th pick or whatever on him, just to get him so we can get more BYU fans to come to Jazz games, THEN i will consider it a fail and you can apologize to me....for something.

Just watch as he lets the opponent drive right through his area!

Please stop trying to make excuses. He is horrible defensively. No if, and, or buts.
