Enes Kanter on Jazz's Draft Board

Where do you guys think Enes Kanter should be on Jazz's Draft Board?

koufos was very talented but he still couldnt learn the post games even in his 2nd yr in nba. And he wasnt as halfway fluid or skilled as enes, as numberica said. Enes has a very high level scoring instinct and his shooting is much more consistent. I think it is ignorant to compare those two guys just because they physically look similar

Comparing apples to apples (highlights of both Kanter and Koufos), Koufos does not appear fluid to me. I've NEVER seen Koufos abuse anyone with sheer power or footwork like Kanter did in that one game. In the U-18 tourny, it just looked like Koufos was bigger than everyone and worked harder while having good moves for the level of competition. But even when I was high on Koufos (and by most people's standards, I STILL have too much faith in him), I never thought of him as a post-threat because his movements were always a little clumsy, he was a bad passer, and he wasn't strong enough in the lower body/couldn't keep his dribble when trying to overpower his man. What I see from Kanter - the little I HAVE seen - blows Koufos' highlights out of the water. All of them, any of them.

Breaking the scoring record in the Nike Hoops Summit in 22 minutes is not a trivial thing. The previous record stood for, what, about 15 years and was held by Dirk Nowitski. The guy has scoring instincts, whether that translates is another question. What that year off meant for him is another question, and that one will probably never be answered. If he has had knee and back problems, you could argue the year off was pivotal for his longevity.

But with Kanter, it's a lot of conjecture. But from what I've seen, again, yes, I see some serious scoring instincts.

I don't have anything against Kanter. In fact I would take him 2nd. But when judging of player you should not take into consideration his best and worst games because these are normally flukes.
I haven't seen Kanter in game videos other than Nike Summit hence I'm somewhat skeptic when I hear bold assumptions similar to what sepanol voiced.

Right. Right.

I'd be happy with Kanter, at least from picks 3 on. He does seem to have that to the basket sort of skill that just comes naturally, and has a good enough jumper to keep teams honest.

All that being said, since there is really no sure thing in this draft except for maybe Irving, I'm really trying to stay optimistic and see the positives of all the prospects. They all seem to have some positives that I can hang my hat on.

Kanter doesn't look very athletic to me. Heavy legs. Unlike other players who play well with that type of body (Marc Gasol) they are a lot bigger/longer.

I voted 4th. IMO its Irving at 1, Williams 2, Knight 3, and Kanter 4.

But that might just be because I think Knight well be a fantastic player in the league. And with what we already have in the front court I think he could be the better pick for us. I would have no problem taking Kanter an spot outside the top 2 tough.

i have actually seen him play in turkey, not much though , but even when he was 16, they were telling he is a good shooter in Turkey, as being a big man

ure right about ur concerns, but we are talking about an exclusive guy here, he dominated all his opponents in europe, u18 or u16 championships. People watched him only in Nike hoops in US, but i think his performance was remarkable enough to understand he has good scoring instincts

Yeah, exactly. All his dominate performances have come against players his age. What is he going to do when he plays against grown men who he can physically dominate?

I've seen both Enes and Kosta play in U-16/18 etc. and you guys who try to give the impression that Koufos was equally talented and versatile as Kanter are making a huge mistake. You put Enes in that OSU squad or Kentucky squad, they, given no injuries, would have been a lock for F4. Another example; put Kosta in any Euroleague team's roster (I watch lots of Euro games) and I can guarantee you that he is a bench warmer or a 4-5 min. player at most. Enes would a the starter 5 or 4 for Greece Nat. team -suppose that he was Greek- while Koufos barely saw PT in last couple of tournaments. Enes, when he was called by FB Ulker because of injuries to multiple frontcourt players, played very efficiently in both Euroleague and Turkish domestic league games. You could see that he never lacked strength, conditioning, toughness to match against some important and experienced big men of a quality Euroleague. It takes lots of time and experience for a pivot or power forward to learn the fundamentals of the position and become a dominant player but Enes already has some of the essential qualities like rebounding, a variety of post moves, passing from the post. Of course, it does not essentially make him NBA ready by any means but shows that there is a HUGE talent and physicality gap between the two, also between Enes and any other big entering this year's draft.

He was playing against grown men at <17 at the highest level of competition outside of the NBA and doing very well. It's also worth noting young players hardly ever crack a rotation in the Euroleague.

Can you show me any stats? The only thing I see about him on DX is that he played 4 games in the 08/09 season in something called EURO, averaged 7.9 minutes averaging 2 points on 40% shooting.

I just read Chad Ford's Insider feature on Kanter. He says there is a good chance that Kanter might end up being the #1 pick, depending on who wins the lottery. He also said that Kanter is shooting lights out in individual workouts and is among the best international prospects since Nickoloz Tskitishvili and Maciej Lampe.

Uhhhh I'm assuming this was a joke or are you still dreaming of watching Enes 82 nights a year.

disclosure: i really did think that Lampe was going to be a good player in the NBA.

Yeah, it was a joke. But those two guys are part of the reason I don't take international player scouting reports seriously any more. Darko would be the other reason.

Kanter fever is good for everybody. So, now when the jazz get #3 they can trade down to get Biyombo or Knight and pick.

#wishful thinking

I'd be very surprised if he was still available at #6, so it is likely a mute point unless the ping pong balls go our way this week.
