2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

This draft is just so weak. It's finding a needle in a haystack kind of draft. You hope to get lucky finding a gem. But chances are, you're getting a bench warmer IMO.
You need to do more research. This draft has great depth.

He’s taller than Darius Garland. Sure he’s 10 lbs lighter but hopefully he can put some weight on.
You keep bringing up Darius Garland like that is a good thing. If you think Dillingham is the most likely to be a star and his ceiling is Garland then this is a terrible draft. I really don't see the thought process. Can you give me a player that is comparable that ever helped a team really compete? Short, score first guard, with no defense. Even if there is couple, it is extremely rare.

The G-League Ignite prospects likely end up as my undoing as an armchair draft analyst for this draft.

It's difficult to evaluate guys that are playing full game garbage time minutes every game. It's also hard to like guys who allowed games to get out of hand so frequently.

Smart was also ~35 lbs heavier...which is insane. Yeah he's short, but he's built like a house and can still move like he does. Same with Dort. At 22 years old, there's definitely no guarantee that Carter can put on close to amount of size and if he did....will he be as quick as he is now? I think Carter will be a great defender nonetheless, but maybe not a great wing defender due to his size.

And this is coming from someone who has Devin Carter high on their board....I just feel like if we can't acknowledge concerns/cons for the players we're not actually doing any analysis.
I feel like a better rebounding Eric Gordon is the better comparison for Carter if he really hits.

The impression I got from that article was that the Jazz might try to trade into the teens and take Dillingham if he falls there. I didn't get the impression that the Jazz are looking at him at #10, but maybe I'm misreading it.

The Jazz are exploring trading up from #10 and also trying to get into the teens. Concurrently, the Lakers have some interest in Colin Sexton and could include the #17 pick in a trade proposal.

I don't think #29 + #32 could get the Jazz up into the teens without the Jazz adding a player to the trade.
Locke keeps pushing Jared McCain if one of the wings are not available. He also likes to repeat Collier's ranking out of high school too. I get the feeling he knows we are trying to get a wing first (Williams/Holland/Salaun) and then trade up from 29/32 to get McCain/Collier if they fall enough (maybe at 17).

i don't think he said garland is a ceiling. rather garland is just an example of scoring guard of similar size to dillingham, that has been successful. garland has been a 20 ppg scorer - i see dillingham's ceiling as a scorer in that trae young range - 25-30 ppg.

If I was running the show, I’d probably be drafting him to flip him down the line (if I couldn’t find a clean path to relegating him as a sixth man and if it’s just clear as day that anyone else at that slot has no ceiling or has low odds of sticking at all).

If you get a Garland caliber of player with the 10th pick in the draft then you hit a ****ing homerun. Some of you are overthinking this ****.

I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree. I never want a short, score first guard, with no defense, on the Jazz ever again.

Darius Garland is an all-star player. At pick 10 you can’t ask for much more than that.

Jalen Brunson
Trae Young
Tyrese Maxey
Donovan Mitchell
Kyrie Irving

Three of the top-5 PPG scorers in the playoffs were 6’2 or under which Dillingham is in shoes.

So essentially we need to purge our entire guard group then from Sexton to Keyonte.

“Drafting Topic and trying to make a run at Cooper Flagg next year might not be the worst idea, something that could prove difficult with an All-Star in Lauri Markkanen in the fold and one of the NBA’s best young coaches in Will Hardy.”
Will be an interesting draft - I hope...

Maybe I'm overthinking this.....

I wonder if there are actually less trades for this draft than would be expected because A) teams feel like the talent is flat and B) they have less of an idea of what other teams are doing, i.e. they can't predict the draft and so there is higher risk of trading back and having your guy taken.

I thought of another one, C) teams might have a hard time agreeing on value in this draft. Some teams might want a discount to move up based on the perceived weakness of the draft and other teams might want to be compensated similarly to other drafts.

It depends on if you want to win or you just enjoy watching the player. Since I want to win, then yes I would purge the them or at least as starters. While I know it is extremely hard to do, I want to target players like Boston. I want Jrue and White type players.

Tony Jones thinks Dillingham needs to reach Trae Young levels of offensive production to offset how awful his defense is.
If he is a 30+ minute a night guy he might need to be there. I do think in some ways he might offer some versatility offensively that Trae doesn't if he will go offball a bit more than Trae. He may end up more as a 20-25 minute a night guy that comes off the bench.
