What's new

Santa is white. Is it wrong?

It's a joke (playing on how many people don't understand what the privilege argument is).

Well the amount of foolish things he says it is hard to tell sometimes. Also pretty much everyone here understands the argument.

Their opinion generally is it speaks badly of black people the way they are portrayed in Perry's movies. I couldn't say as it would be heavily tainted by my overwhelming white privilege and pre-destination to be an oppressing ueber-racist.

Treating this more seriously, the real problem there is that Perry's movies are seen as speaking for black people, as opposed to a particular group of black people (the ones who produce and consume Perry's movies). It's a mistake to take any individual director, whether it's Perry, Lee, etc., and think of them as speaking for black people. However, that's part of the reality of being in an out-group. Your actions, for good or bad, are considered a reflection on your entire group. By contrast, there is no director that's considered to embody the voice of white people. White directors are considered to have their own voices. The problem is not which director is considered to be speaking for black people, it's that any director would be considered in that light.

Go ahead, show us how much you understand the argument.

To be honest I have no interest in answering anything you ask as you talk down to people, are arrogant, play word games, delight in attempting to find faults in others, avoid simple direct questions and other wise act in a manner that I do not care for. I, as well as many others here, do not take you seriously due to your games and actions.

So in short, go pound sand.

I look forward to your lack of interest being displayed with a lack of further responses.

I look forward to the day when you realise you have done far more harm then good to the ideals you champion.

That's an interesting claim. I don't believe you can make a case for that, but if you think you can, please do so.

Take the reaction you get from this board. More people are now resistant to your ideas than are open to them. This is a result of the way that you present your message and arguments. All the proof I need is the resonses you get. Openly dismissive and sarcastic.

Previously you said "ideals", now you're using "ideas". Which one did you mean?

I'm well aware of the human tendency to increase the level of commitment to an idea in the face of a debate about that idea. You have been causing the same reactions as I do, in the opposite direction, among people who already understand what I'm talking about and accept the theory. That's not news, and I don't expect to convince people already opposed to the idea.

As opposed to the responses of which other posters talking about racism and cognitive bias? Who talks about these issues and doesn't get openly dismissive and sarcastic remarks? For example, when LogGrad98 tried to mention that people were not always aware of their biases, you were openly dismissive. Is that because of the way LogGrad98 argues?

Because it is in a thread started by you and filled with your horrendous posts and the subject is being openly mocked. If log came to me and tried to talk about something serious I am much more willing to hear him out than you. You have approached Thriller territory.

Talking about racism was mocked for years on this board before I began talking about it. As for your willingness to hear LogGrad98 out, your prior behavior speaks louder than your words.

BTW, neither of those points in any way affects the accomplishment of my ideals.

So, you have seem to no proof that I've harmed my ideals in any way, which was what I predicted.

Here's an idea, Stoked:

Find a person you are "much more willing to hear ... out" than me, who acknowledges the notion of cultural racism or something similar. Set up a brand new discussion thread where this poster will convince you of it in the "correct" manner. I will not post in that thread.

Try starting with heyhey. He made a declaration that he believed in social justice issues. There are plenty of others.

My prediction: even if you get someone, they won't last more than 25 posts with you, and you will be no closer to being convinced than you are now. My guess is your conviction isn't really about me, or my arguing style. It's about you, and want you want to be true about yourself.

Try having a likeable personality.

Who made this guy a moderator? It is pretty disgusting how openly abusive he is being to a long time member.

So because one becomes a moderator, one can no longer be agitated by certain posters they get tired of seeing?

I didn't see that in the rule book. There must be a different set unavailable to lowly members that's for moderators.

Jason, would you kindly post that for everyone to read instead of just the moderators and overwhelmingly elite few like our dear friend pearlWatson?

That just happened.
