Burks

Burks is like getting an extra draft pick. Whatever he gives Utah will be more than they got last year.

Burks, the comeback player, the free agent acquisiton and now a draftee for the second time. What's next? G-League call-up?

A while ago Tony Jones tweeted (I think it was him, maybe Andy Larsen) that Burks is 100% and should have no restrictions of any kind when camp starts.

Burks will prove a lot of folks here wrong. A healthy amount of crow pie is being baked by fishon, me, and a few others. Later Y'all will say you didn't really not like Burks. That you still saw some value as a scorer just dem injuries.

Haters always gonnn a-hate.

Which would be true for a lot of posters. I rarely see posters that dislike Burks. He has had bad injuries and is an ISO player on a team that moves away from that mostly. But let's see what happens. Siro has the right approach.

Let's quit with the talk of trading him for an asset and give him a chance, and see what happens. If it looks like he's not going to contribute, then we can have this conversation. He deserves that chance.

If Burks can shoot 40% from 3 this year, he is serviceable and worth his contract. He will have that 3 open for him all year. Everything else he can give us after that is just gravy. Fortunately, we know that Burks CAN shoot 40% from 3.

No we don't. He has never shot 40% from 3 and never will.

Should give Burks some credit because he has improved his shooting since coming into the league, but that over 40% 3FG is kind of misleading imo. Low volume, likely a higher percentage than normal were uncontested. Let's put it this way, he's never been a guy that the opposing defense will be too bummed about giving a wide open 3pt look to (especially from somewhere besides the corner), and I don't have much hopes for that changing. Hopefully, he can at least be a consistent threat this season from the corner three, where opposing teams must cover that shot at all times.

If we are going to run more, I see Burks doing well. I think he could do the "3" if we run a lot more. I would love to see this as the 2nd unit. We would run anyone out of the building.

If Burks is healthy he probably plays enough just to prove he is healthy, at the very most 10 mpg (assuming no injuries happen to others), so the Jazz can unload him w/ a 2nd round pick this off-season.

I don't think the Jazz will be running much this season either. It's not so simple as just deciding to run and play more up-tempo. A lot of it comes down to the comparative advantage the Jazz own with their best lineups, which is gonna be stifling opponents with insane halfcourt defense. Jazz should most definitely run whenever they have the opportunity - as should any team - but with scheming for the opposing offense to face the Jazz set halfcourt defense as often as possible it does not lead to a fast pace - it leads more to the slowest pace in the NBA.

Hopefully, a guy like Rubio can take more advantage of the few opportunities the Jazz get to run, and create more opportunities than might be there otherwise. Also, the easiest way for any of the Jazz wings or guards to push the pace would be to grab more rebounds themselves. A guy like Burks should always be aiming for something like that.

But yeah, every player on the team could make more of a conscious effort to bust their *** down the court every single time. I miss Karl Malone.

Of course the Jazz won't run much. They will still be starting Joe Ingles and Rodney Hood as their wings, who are both slower than the average player at their position.

Yeah, they are a couple of the rare NBA wings that are not very good in transition - seemingly worse than in halfcourt offense.

So we are counting a 30 game sample size as something we know he can do for a full season?

30 games is a far cry from the "never" that you continue to be wrong about. Those 30 games is the last time he was actually fully healthy. He shot .382 the season before so it isn't like it is a fluke either.

In 27 games...

Sounds not good. Probably would get killed on the glass and in the paint, and really struggle to create any offense in the halfcourt, which teams would realize and force them to do.
