Hood's Injury

What kind of surgery fixes a bruise?

I would guess either the local player got diagnosed wrong, or he played on it and it ****ed **** up more. A bone bruise isnt an actual bruise, it's just a near fracture, so the dude might have fractured his knee after playing on a bone bruise.

Yeah 46% shooting w/ 36% from deep, poor shooting. Not to mention 85% from FT line. Just awful.

As far as defense, he has a positive DBPM and is 10th in DRPM.

ESPN ranks him as 11th in usage rate among SF's. Nothing too much, he has a usage rate you would expect from a guy who is the clear cut 2nd best player on his team.

Put him in a modified role like JJ (which he'd never accept) and I'd consider it - otherwise forget it. I don't care what the guys numbers are, eleven years in the league and he's been a loser everywhere he's been and it's not a coincidence.

Actually I think in his case of lot of it is coincidence. He has really matured as a player with his shot selection. If you think he sucks then you must think Hayward sucks, because he is basically the same player as last year's Hayward.

I'll just echo some of the others in that I'll be very surprised if it's just 1-2 weeks. And if he does manage to come back in that time-frame (and maybe even if not), we should expect at least some Favors-esque difficulty in returning to full performance once he's cleared to play.

It's a significant injury, but thank goodness it wasn't worse.

BTW yet another injury that Harrison Barnes could've filled in for (admirably)..

Looks like we could've penciled him in for 50 starts with the way ****s going........

I'm not gonna keep carrying on about Barnes...

Good, because Utah has to actually pay attention to the salary cap, which means we can't just throw maxes around at everyone who interests us, especially for a position were we are already solid.

this. getting gay on this team, hopefully being adventageous with a desperate kings team, would be a coup IMO

The all star break ends after Sunday Feb 19th. I'm not expecting to see him before then, despite these reports.

Given the drama from Hood (I thought his knee exploded), I'm forced to assume that a knee bruise is the most painful thing on Earth.

Its also the fear of having done an ACL. Its every athletes nightmare so when you have an injury like that (especially if you havent had it before) its a mixture of pain, fear and disappointment, you almost convince yourself it is worst case scenario.

Brand new. Ive been reading this forum for a few years now though...

I got "banned" from Utah's facebook page after questioning the validity of GHs' concussion (I still think I was right but my approach obviously wasn't appreciated). Anyway this is where I go to vent/educate now haha.

Hopefully they'll forgive me one day.

Its not like someone bumped his leg. It was an hypertension resulting in a bone bruise. You must not have ever had one. They arent fun. I don't think I've ever seen a player have that happen to them and just act like it was nothing. Its extreme pain around the entire knee. And like elan said, its also the scare. It can feel a lot worse than it is.

That is scary if hypertension lead to a bone bruise. His blood pressure must have been through the roof. :D

I did something similar. Chasing a loose ball and another player dived and knocked the ball just as I was about to pick it up. Somehow my foot ended up on top of the ball and my knee gave out. Hyperextension, bone bruise, and dislocation of the patella. Was able to play after 3 or 4 weeks, but had PT for six months until I was out of pain. Knee injuries (and back injuries for that matter) suck.

The good news is that we were favored for the next 10 games. It will be more difficult without Hood - for however many games he misses - but the Jazz can still go 8-2, 9-1. Burks, Jingles and Johnson just need to step up.

Having Burks back is timely, but this is the reason the Jazz invested in veterans this offseason. Jingles is in line for a new contract and Johnson was brought in to help with the offense in the clutch. Hopefully the Jazz have enough juice to get by until Hood comes back healthy.

They will be fine.
Hood was having a kind of bad year anyway. His field goal percentage (41) and three point percentage (35) and free throw percentage (74) and free throw attempts per game (2.0), and assists per game (2.0), and points per game (14.0) and minute per game (29.3) are all down from last year.

He has kind of quietly been having a bad season and no one has really been talking about his poor play all that much. Mostly we have criticized mack, lyles, favors, and Diaw but hood has mostly avoided criticism since I think we all believe he has hay been in a slump and he has had some really good games to make us forget his bad ones.

Gobert, hill, and Hayward (along with different guys stepping up here and there) have been carrying us and will continue to do so.

Plus burks has a much improved 3 point point shot and i think he is a better passer, rebounder, and more dynamic scorer than hood and puts lots of pressure on the defense and gets to the line.

I think we will be fine.
