Jazz going after OJ Mayo

The main problem with Mayo seems to be BB IQ and his coachability. Neither a good thing on a young team.
I would rather us use Hayward at SG where he's far better defensively and go after SF Mike Dunleavy. He's 6'9' and 32 so isn't a long-term guy, which I don't think we need, and shouldn't be pricey. Smart all-round team-oriented offensive player with legit 3-point range. Demarre Carroll has improved every year and could soon be starter material, or we could go SF in the upcoming draft.

We need someone who can create a shot. This is will be the glaring hole in the offense next season, and you're all going to wish we had a Mayo-ish player on the roster. Al was that guy, Millsap and Hayward were at times, even Mo brought a few times.

Who on the current roster is going to score when our half court offense falls apart, which it will the season A LOT.

Look, I'm all for letting the young guys get after it, and accepting the losing that comes with it. But if were going to even play watchable basketball this season we need a reliable scorer.

I like Mayo, I think he'd make a great addition.

As to the quitting on his team garbage. Yeah, the Mav's sucked in the last quarter of the season, reduced his touches, and he became disinterested. I don't care.

The Pelicans offered Tyreke Evans 4 years, $48M.

Evans is restricted, I get it. But I hope that doesn't set the standard for everyone else.

Other FAs like Millsap and OJ are going to look at that and demand at least that much.

That's in line with what I expected. The big thing is Reke is 23, so they are paying for untapped potential. Where as with Millsap, he is a 95% complete product, with probably an equal chance he declines rather than improves.

I like the Copeland discussion for this reason. It keeps Hayward at the SG and keeps Burks heavily in the rotation.

Dallas wants to sign-and-trade Mayo.

The Clippers want to sign-and-trade Bledsoe.

The Bucks want to sign-and-trade Reddick.

The Hawks want to sign-and-trade Josh Smith.

The Jazz probably want to sign-and-trade Millsap.

interesting trend

Everyone's going to throw out sign and trade proposal for a player they don't want.
A team doesn't have to give up an asset to get another player.

The Clippers have to be the heavy favorite to land Mayo. I really think that Copeland, Foye, Tinsley, and Caroll are the FA this year.

The Clippers have several options in a sign-and-trade for Bledsoe. OJ may not be their first choice, especially at the price he's going to command on the open market.

The 2014 free agent class looks pretty weak. I can see why the Jazz might try to make a bit of a splurge this year.

I know most everyone has seen this video, but I just always hear that the jazz don't have a guy that create his own shot...... So watch this video and don't pay attention the fast break dunks, steals, offensive rebounds and putbacks, and jumpers....... Just pay attention to the plays he makes in the half court going against a set defense...... His quickness/speed seems to be elite (especially his first step), he has good ball handling, takes contact well, contorts his body well and is very fluid with the ball while in the air.
This was the video from his rookie year when he was utilizing these skills more, where as last year it seemed like maybe the only way for him to get minutes was to bring the ball up (as a point guard, which he is not) pass it away and then stand on the 3 point line and wait for someone to kick it out to him for a long jumper.

I think if corbin will turn burks loose and let him utilize his creativity and athleticism, then I believe we have someone on the team already that is quite capable of creating his own shot and taking shots in iso situations and end of clock situations.

I don't think there are many players that can stay in front of burks if he decides he is going to the rim..... Also in that video he is a 20 year old rookie whose coach doesn't have any confidence in him.

I think if corbin would play him and give him the green light then it would just do wonders for his confidence (and he already has a good deal of swagger) and he would turn into a star

Let me put it this way...apparently Mayo is a decent passer for a SG, puts up good shooting numbers, plays decent defense, and he's only 25.

So why aren't teams scrambling to sign him? I think y'all are missing a huge clue here.

As far as the topic, I like mayo as a player but I think we will have to overpay for him and believe in our young wings way more than I believe in mayo.
