If someone can show me how this won't mess up the Jazz's financial plans I'd be way more ok with this move. In principle I'm against this move because I want to see the young guys get minutes and because of cap space. It's really the cap space thing that I'm most interested in.
Or in other words, since I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to how cap space and stuff works, Core4 and others have told me that having a lot of cap space can be extremely valuable come the deadline, as teams want to avoid the luxury tax and would be forced to give up assets (especially draft picks) so the few teams with the cap space (aka the Jazz) can absorb the Shawn Marion contracts of the world and demand a pick in compensation. To me that's spectacular if the Jazz can pull that sort of move off at the deadline. So, would signing Mayo (plus other guys like Demarre who I really want the Jazz to re-sign provided he's not getting insane offers) hinder that plan? That's what I don't know, if getting Mayo still leaves the Jazz with a ton of space and flexibility in the future, especially come this year's trading deadline.
If the Jazz still have that good flexibility, then I'm not that opposed to the move. I like a lot of what Mayo brings to the table. I'm still worried about Burks not getting many minutes though, but the cap space thing is my big issue.
