What's new

Neto is pretty neato.

1280 Radio boys were saying that Locke reported after the draft that there were some scouts who thought that Neto was a better prospect than Trey.

I hadn't heard that. Hopefully none of you heard it either because that would really fuel the fire of a pg contreversy.

Bring him in as our number 2. This year is all about getting the youth some chemistry, and trial and error.
If Neto is part of our future why wouldn't he be included in next year?

Burke/Neto/Tinsley I'll pay to see it.

Why does Burke get to start? Surely not because he's the higher draft pick, right?

Well I know who has been better in SL so far

Yea I talked about that the first post, a Scout said us Jazz fans should be more excited about Neto.

Pump the brakes. The dude played one summer league game. You guys talk like he is going to be our next franchise player. The overreaction both on the positive and negative sides, from jazz fans never ceases to amaze me.

Why not just bring him over? We're tanking this year anyway. Start Burke, have Nedo as the backup... and if it turns out that we have that backwards well, we'll know by the end of the season.

I'm convinced Neto is the reason Jazz still haven't signed another PG for the upcoming season. I think he's priority #1. I'd be happy with him and Burke splitting the minutes right down the middle next year.

The earlier you bring him over, the earlier he's a free agent. If he's going to get good coaching and decent playing time playing elsewhere, there's really no need to burn years leading up to restricted free agency (I'm assuming the Jazz will be smart and sign him to a deal that reaches at least 3 years with team options). Signing/trading for a vet 2nd/3rd PG with an expiring deal seems like the smarter move to me. I'd also like the Jazz to bring in another 4 (again, preferably a vet on a one year deal), as I think a reserve big rotation of Gobert/Evans/Marvin is going to be pretty ****ing ugly, especially with Favors' high foul rate.

This is a good point. And if Nedo's in a good situation overseas, then it might be best to let him sit for a season or so.

Also, don't forget about Biedrins!!

He is ready as a backup and will give you very solid 15-20 minutes per game. He definiely has the potential to take away the starting spot from Burke.

i have to agree with you. i was blown away by his play today. he's very smart and crafty as hell. looked like rubio 2.0 out there and had never even learned our sets. with a better cast, 3 or 4 of the passes he made that didnt get finished wouldve been assists. he easily couldve had 7 assists in the 20ish mins he played today with nba talent catching his passes.

He having played professionally already (spain seems to be the closest competition to nba) really gives him a head start over burke.

One thing (and im surprised about this) is that burke has looked pretty solid defensively so far. That is very encouraging, i have to figure his shot will start falling, but i didnt know what to expect defensively.

Either way, it looks like we have two young thoroughbreds in the stable. excited for the season.

No. Let him get better over seas for some time as insurance I case Burke busts, then bring him in. From what I understand he plays in one of the top leagues. This should help him improve.

I never understood why people want players to "develop" overseas. It's like playing a pick up game, if you play against scrubs you **** on them and you never seem to improve your game. If you play against talent, you have to make adjustments to your game and in the long run, you get better. Knowing that PG is a need for the team, I'd rather have Neto now instead of later

We don't have a backup PG and we've already gone "All In" on the tank by having Biedrins and Jefferson as key subs. Have them play 2 quarters each, with the best man eventually getting more playing time (I think that will be Burke, but you never know). We're not locked into a certain salary with a 2nd rounder, right? IINM, Jazz gave CJ the equivalent of a 1st because they had promised him (and then traded the pick to move up). Give Neto the normal salary for his draft position, throw in a $1M bonus on top of that + his salary + the $500K we can contribute to his buyout. If I were Lindsey, I'd sign him to a guaranteed 3 yr deal. I think we've seen enough already to know he can be a very good backup.
