New Orleans wants JAZZ name back

I don't post that often, but I want to point out that the Utah Jazz would be foolish to re-brand their franchise. The New Orleans area has failed repeatedly to support a franchise including the New Orleans Jazz; however, after 33 years of sustained development by the fans in UTAH the Jazz brand is well known and survives a small market with a rabid fan base. Now, New Orleans wants the brand name back. Why would Utah risk re-branding their team? For the same reason that the L.A. Lakers won't re-brand....

The Jazz franchise is beloved in Utah, and it would be a shame for the people of New Orleans to destroy the Jazz franchise for a second time. I hope Greg Miller is not idiotic enough to do something stupid and short-sighted.

You guys are all so clueless. The NO hornets have had such a rough time of it i think the league owes them their name back. so they can take their rightful place as one of the marquee franchises in the league. I've been a huge fan of both franchises since their inception as i can say with an unbiased opinion that the jazz should relinquish the name. then utah can come up with a new one that would more accurately represent the culture of the state. like maybe the Utah Scrappin' Whities. Or the Great Salt Lakes! I don't know. I'm just spitballin here. What has utah done to deserve such a great name anyway. not much.

ANOTHER alt account? Seriously?

hey come on guys.. whats wrong with the utah hornets.. ive followed the jazz for all 33 years but iv always wanted a new name.. the jazz doesnt fit us and new orleans needs their beloved name back..

lol, shows how much u know about the name Jazz.

The best Jazz anymore is in the coastal cities, Chicago and Austin. Why don't they call themselves the New Orleans Creole, or Crawdads, or River Sludge or something... Jazz is a cool name for a team, no doubt. Probably one of the best in the league. I think Utah likes it too much though.

Considering New Orleans' history with the team is only a sliver of what Utah's is, it seems ridiculous to give them their name back.

The fact is, everything established with the name 'Jazz' came while the team played in Salt Lake City. The first winning season in franchise history happened here. The first division championship happened here. The first 50-win season happened here. The first 60 win season happened here. The first playoff game happened here. The first playoff victory happened here. The first playoff series win happened here. The first conference finals happened here and the first NBA Finals happened here.

The New Orleans Jazz are known for two things: Some of the worst teams in the NBA and Pistol Pete Maravich. You've already claimed Maravich, as the Hornets have already retired his number, even though he didn't technically play for that franchise, you're not going to claim a bulk of the history that was established after your city failed to keep the Jazz.

Regardless of the jokes and what anyone else thinks, the NBA Jazz will always be more known for what they did in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s than anything they ever did in New Orleans. They did nothing there. They sucked. They were awful. They were losers. They were a loser franchise that only became viable and successful when they relocated to Utah.

It's the UTAH JAZZ. Deal with it. Live with it and shut the **** up.

Why do I doubt this post's integrity? I know. Is it because someone is claiming to be an adult, but types like a prepubescent teenager?

Sorry for how rude my fellow New Orleans fan came across. The name describes New Orleans and in a perfect world the name jazz would belong to New Orleans, but the world is not perfect. It has been so many years and the name jazz has been a part of Utah sports for over 3 decades - its been too long for Utah to give up a name that so many have connected with. Many New Orleans fans complain we are called charlotte so often, this would be so much worse if somehow we got the jazz name back.

Like i said in an ideal world i would love the jazz name but its just not a possibility. We need to find a new name that connects with the city, that may be blues or brass or Krewe or whatever.

Just face it the name dosent fit Utah and yall even went back and changed your color scheme to Mardi Gras colors. I mean really people.

Utah Jazz official colors - Navy, Dark Green, Dark Yellow, Gray
Mardi Gras colors - Purple, Green, Gold

It's interesting these New Orleans fans care so much about their local jazz history (lowercase, of course), but are so dismissive of the history we have with our Jazz. History is history, no? Tradition is tradition, no? You want the Jazz because it links up to your city's history. Fair enough. Guess what? So does our Jazz. The Utah Jazz, nowadays, is every much apart of Salt Lake's history and tradition as the music was to yours.

For traditionalists and whatnot, you sure like to piss on our tradition.

Hey, guys. JJAS here. Even though I've been posting on Jazz Fanz for a long time, I was really a Hornets fan, and I live on 10x dip-shi T'Bourbon St. if you want to verify this. I just had my dinner, crayfish jambalaya, and now feel ready to say that for a long time I have felt that the Utah Jazz deserve their name for the decades of great basketball and the Jazz festival in Park City, where you can see Craig Chaquico playing Jazz Fusion, wearing black leather pants. I know it's hard to believe that I'm really from N'Orleans, but there you have it. Beautiful night here!

Here I am putting some beads on a sweet honey!

A few things that have already been said but deserve to be repeated:

-Did Minnesota fans/ownership throw a tantrum and try to get the Laker name back when they got a new franchise? Even if they had, do you even think for a second that L.A. would have given it back?

-The UTAH JAZZ have been rabidly supported in SLC for over 3 decades (for those of you keeping score, that's over 600% longer than N.O. was able to support the Jazz)

-It's OUR nickname, we've earned the right to keep it, and you can have it when you pry it from our cold, dead, hands.

I'm seeing Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Buffett.... and if you really cared about Jazz you wouldn't have Dave Koz.

Maybe you could be the New Orleans 'Palooza though.

our jazzfest lineup is horrible this year so that shouldn't have been referenced. Ryan2709 stated our opinion very well.. we would love to have the jazz name back but no one realistically expects to get it back
