Ric Bucher reporting Jazz have signed Randy Foye to a 1-year deal

Exactly. I hardly ever agree with him but he entertains me.

I could swear KOCBEDUMB, BluesRocker, HeavenHarris, northeast (though he's posted much more intelligent commentary at points recently which makes me think otherwise), and a couple other handles were all the same dude.

Possibly as I like them all. Heavenharris less than the others as he is less entertaining.

Stellar defenders? Wuh?

I think Foye is a really good defender. At least that's the impression I always got when I watched him. Marvin's a legit SF that's long and athletic; I think he's a significant improvement (defensively) over CJ or Josh. I always thought Harris was a good defender till he got here. I'm not sure if he lost a step or just didn't care anymore, but I think Mo's taking on the leader/captain role, and if he's doing that he knows he has bring it on D. So yes, I'm convinced that each offseason signing was a significant upgrade on defense.

maybe not stellar defenders but good ones. That and the outside shooting these signings provide are areas of need for the jazz. None of them are huge upgrades but enough decent upgrades starts to add up. How many decent/ok upgrades before it starts making a real difference? 3? 4? 5?...

We are at 3 and it could be argues in a way to show up as 6 (miles, howard and bell being gone as 3 and Williams, williams and foye being added as 3).

I like the one year signing too since it gets Foye out of the way by the time Burkes will be able to contribute more. The team is forming nicely, and I wonder how guys like Foye and Marvin Williams will respond to the system in Utah.

Looks like KOC has lost it. We needed a 3 who could shoot. Now we've got 2 guys in Foye and Burks who can only play the 2, and I have no idea how he expects the 4 mismatched wings we have to split duties. I'll be curious to hear the official explanation of who's going to play where and when.

What if this move means that KOC is not done shuffling the deck? I say we wait to see what we start the season with before we start making judgements on if he has lost it or not. It may still be an incomplete picture.

I too don't quite understand the idea of signing a SG (I was perplexed by the decision to draft Murphy), but it's another asset I guess. And Foye's playing for another contract so he should be good. Again, I think it would've been smarter to draft a big at pick 47. O'Quinn was still there. Furkan was still there. Then the Foye signing would seem less unnecessary.

Whatever.

We needed a wing who can shoot. Jazz offense is PG, wing, big. Might be an issue defensively if Foye plays with Burks, but that will be against lower competition (bench players).

Please expand. Marvin is the 3 who can shoot. Are last year's perimeter figures quite possibly an outlier? Of course. But he pretty much brings what we needed. Perimeter shooting (hopefully), length, solid defense. Who did you want?

What is the problem if Burks and Foye can only play the 2? Obviously flexibility helps but it's not always a necessity. And quite frankly, Burks can play more than just the 2 at times. Didn't Corbin already say he was going to play him some at the 1 this year? And his length is better than Hayward's so I see no reason he can't play some 3 in certain, albeit rare, situations when we go smallball. Again, Burks is a 2 80-90% of the time for me but he has some wiggle room there. If you believe this to be false, who did you want? And our wings are not great, no doubt. But what do you mean when you say they're mismatched?

Furkan KOC!

I have been saying most offseason that backup PG is the Jazz's weakest position. This signing makes sense to me as it addresses both backup PG and depth at the wings.

So good signing imo because I believe Foye is an upgrade over Watson and Tinsley.

We got Marvin Williams and Hayward that can both play SF and can shoot. We have Carrolle there as depth though his shooting seems suspect.
At SG we have Hayward, Burks, Murphy (if he makes the team), Foye and possibly Mo.
At Pg we have Mo, Foye, Tinsley and Watson.

What makes you think Foye can only play SG? Seems to me he could play Pg as long as he's not the guy instigating the offense. I would love to see Hayward and Burks put into the position of instigating the offense instead of a PG.
