What's new

Jazz @ Celtics 5:30 MT

Burke is basically a slower version of Nate Robinson - he'll shoot you in or out of a game on any given night.

Good comparison. I still remain in favor of trading Trey if the right veteran is available. Even bring in Neto; he may be better. I have no idea why they haven't let him compete for a job.

Outside of the 3rd quarter against Memphis, Hayward has SUCKED for 5 games in a row. Hmmm...mirrors all of last season and coincides with the trade of Kanter. Gordon DESPERATELY needs a few shooters to take the pressure off of him.

And Trey is back to his chucking (and missing) ways. I knew it was too good to last.

Good gawd we're horrible at shooting 3's.
Yep. As good as the defense plays, they need to give Hayward some help offensively. He tries too hard and it goes to crap. Loved the last second shot though. Ice water in his veins. Get him some guys who can score (without sacrificing defense) and I think he'll start looking great again. That has to be the number one goal this offseason. Neto, Tomic and another guy who can score. . . don't care where he plays, they just need to find him.

Defense will have to suffer a bit. About the only place we can put a shooter is at the 2, unless Exum is sent to the bench.

1. Is Burks a good enough outside threat to put at the 2 or do we need a 3PT specialist?
2. Exum HAS to be able to hit 3's.
3. Rudy HAS to develop a FT-line jumper. That will open up the inside for either a fake and drive or a pass to Favors.

Gobert's awesomeness is overshadowing the poorly played games by Gordon and Exum.
Favors is the only player right now who plays consistently well and plays both sides of the game. He should take more shots.

Wait, my window's not in Boston..

Are you living in Boston these days? For some reason I'm associating you with Idaho.

EDIT: I dug up the thread about you moving to Boston. It would suck only getting to have the Jazz come to town once a year, but sitting on the second row would obviously be awesome!

Last summer I was debating jobs between Idaho Falls and Boston.....I chose Boston. That was a rough ending to the game :(

Agree. We just can't have Gordon as the only shooter in the game and Favors as the only other scorer. Gobert, Exum and Ingles are not threats offensively. Pretty hard to play 2-on-5 on that end, no matter how well our defense plays.

Higher taxes and a much higher cost of living. Hope the salary difference was enough to make up for it!
I've actually been to Boston 4-5 times on business, staying about 5 days at a time. Great city. I can see why you wanted to return.

Missed the game. What did Gameplan did Stevens use to muck up the game?

Utah got off to a great start (11-4), then Stevens went small ball by bringing in Crowder. He killed us!
And we shot ourselves in the foot again: poor FT shooting, turnovers and 15% on our 3's.
Credit Boston; they only turned the ball over 3 times. That's PHENOMENAL!

PG's: Avery and Bradley = 34 pts; Exum and Burke = 19 pts.

Exum is just too big a liability offensively if we want to take that next step.

Yea its such a great city, plus lots cool beaches on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Newport, RI is a favorite too. This winter was brutal though.'

There was a good amount of Jazz fans at the game. A bunch of French people there for Gobert. I sat next to one who barely spoke english and he just kept showing me pictures of Gobert in a French national jersey.

I didn't catch the 2nd half of the game but someone said something about Hood's ankle in another thread. Did Rodney get hurt?

He stepped on someone's foot and tweaked his ankle. Nothing serious, he was in the game on the last play for some reason.

The IDEAL situation would be to draft a defensive minded 2/3 wing player to pair with Hayward and then have them either own or develop an offensive game that complements the Hayward/Exum back-court duo. Similar to how Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler and Klay Thompson have all developed into above-average two-way players. Give me one of Russell, Johnson or Hezonja and then develop whichever side is lacking. I think that all 3 of those guys have long-term potential to be impact players on both ends.

Exum will get better as his body and conditioning improves. As he gets bigger (to finish with contact) and gains confidence in his shot (which I think is ahead of schedule) he'll basically be able to be a legitimate triple thread. Pass, shoot or drive. He's not there, but I see that potential in him.

Gobert is going to work and get better - probably making a jump on the offensive end next year. Anybody who follows Rudy knows the kind of work ethic he has. Losing sucks and he's going to want to be more involved in the offense moving forward. Expect some new moves from him starting next year. I've said it many times, but I'd send him and Favors to go work with Hakeem this offseason. Seems to be a right of passage for young bigs, and I guarantee that Gobert will get more out of that than anyone else who has ever worked with him. It's just his damn style.

Not to mention the refs loved calling touch fouls on us and weren't allowing us to be physical at all. I saw the refs blow a call when boston stepped out of bounds and a lot of other things. Hayward got hacked a few times and no call. etc.

Jazz just need to play like they expect to get crappy calls made against them so they can be pleasantly surprised when the refs swallow their whistles. Can't hope for the refs to help Utah. Just not enough of a profile yet. As Rudy continues to beast, that will change. . . but if it costs them a game or three now it'll be worth it to not have it bite them when they're legitimately contending for the playoffs.

These post kanter games are fun
