More Mitchell Love

Countdown on Most 3 point makes by a Rookie: Post Mavs - 3/22/18

1.) Damian Lillard, Portland (12/13) - 185
2.) Steph Curry, GSW (09/10) - 166
3.) Donovan Mitchell, Utah (17/18) - 161

Donovan Mitchell (17/18) - with one more 3 pointer tonight brings his total to 161. Still 3rd all time.

Needs 6 more to take 2nd and 25 more to take over 1st.

10 games left to go. He needs to average 2.5 per game to do that. He’s been averaging 2.6 per game (on 7.3 attempts) since the win streak began back in January, but his shot has been off. He’s gotten only one to go down in each of the last three games. He needs to have a couple of good games here in order to comfortably contend with Lillard.

For a legit primary option on offense that can guard 5 positions and is a perennial DPOY? Ehh.
Yeah, but a 4/5 year max if he is hurt all the time or melts down scares the hell out of me. Same reason I don’t want to invest huge money into Jabari Parker.

What’s really going on with Kawhi? How do you vet his current injury when that kind of money is on the line. If they get him, I’ll applaud the move and hope he gets back to his previous level of play. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t give me pause.

Aren’t we at least a little concerned about the fact that he’s missed a whole season due to injury and seems to have some sort of major conflict with his team right now?
Yes. It’s kind of a paradox, though, as that’s the only reason he’d be (more) available.

But I’m curious about the ongoing drama without being able to step up and put an end to it. Sounds like it’s had an effect on the team with the news of the players-only meeting.

That’s what concerns me more than anything. I think it’s more likely that he’s traded this offseason with how this all went down. Another year like this, and they won’t get anything for himin a trade before he can be a free agent. I hate the idea of anyone coming in and screwing up the chemistry of this team.

I’m curious what his beef is beyond the health stuff. If there’s no beef, he’d step up and clear that out a lot better than he has. And I don’t buy the old Hayward routine of “never mind the obvious cues, that’s just his personality.”

I think it is worth mentioning that both Lillard and Curry came out after their senior years. And yeah, Mitchell isn't a Robin to anyone else, nor has he had a Robin.

That being said, when you're shooting 2/17 from three in your last two games and seem to get everything you want inside, maybe do the latter more and the former less.

It seems fairly evident to me that he's aware of the record and is gunning for it. Which is fine if he makes shots.
Quin probably tells him to keep shooting, although part of the problem is shot selection. Sometimes he shoots it too soon instead of making the extra pass or whatever, but he's a rookie, but the way I look at it is if he didn't have this flaw, as a rookie he wouldn't be human. Lol

I hope I'm misreading this. It sounds as if you're insinuating that he might be human. Unpossible.

Countdown on Most 3 point makes by a Rookie: Post Spurs - 3/23/18

1.) Damian Lillard, Portland (12/13) - 185
2.) Steph Curry, GSW (09/10) - 166
3.) Donovan Mitchell, Utah (17/18) - 165

Donovan Mitchell (17/18) - with four more 3 pointer tonight (including two clutch to force overtime) brings his total to 165. Still 3rd all time.

Needs 2 more to take 2nd and 21 more to take over 1st.

9 games left to go. He needs to average 2.3 per game to do that. He’s been averaging 2.6 per game (on 7.3 attempts) since the win streak began back in January, but his shot has been off lately. Percentages aside, Donovan is still very likely to take the #1 spot eventually.

So what is Mitchell at this stage, a streaky shooter, high end scorer with some serious swagger and clutch DNA?
It's hard to rationalise how good he can be when it seems to count most... but how much he can miss at other times.

Mind you his inside and mid-range game is pretty much money.

Countdown on Most 3 point makes by a Rookie: Post Warriors - 3/25/18

1.) Damian Lillard, Portland (12/13) - 185
2.) Donovan Mitchell, Utah (17/18) - 169
3.) Steph Curry, GSW (09/10) - 166

Donovan Mitchell (17/18) - with four more 3 pointers tonight brings his total to 169 and overtakes Curry for second place overall.

Needs 17 more to take over 1st.

8 games left to go. He needs to average 2.125 per game to do that. He’s been averaging 2.6 per game (on 7.3 attempts) since the win streak began back in January, but his shot has been off lately. He had three in 3 games, eight in the last two. The question now looks to be “when, not if” he breaks the record. What an unbelievable season. Looks like the Spurs woke the beast again.
