Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I don't think he sells... he would become a loser and a quitter. If they team got moved he immediately becomes enemy #1 in Utah. Ryan would likely stick it out... just like he is sticking it out with the backwards hat and hoodie look... it will come back.

Its all fair criticism though. Donovan going for the cool highlight play this year a few times instead of just finishing was a pet peeve and a symptom of what ails us.

I'm hoping Danny can figure it out and talk some sense into him but good GMs aren't always just focused on winning... they are generally focused on executing the strategy the boss wants. If that is keeping Donovan then that is the lens he views moves from... if the boss wants to win then he makes winning move.

Danny has been known to be a fierce competitor, but everything else about it just seems off. His reputation has a harsh negotiator seems to be a negative these days instead of a positive....he is only doing this part time, and it's unclear who makes the decisions....he got hired because he's Ryan's personal friend.

The current Jazz brain trust makes me queasy, and while we can bicker back and forth about what direction we would personally like to go, I don't have any faith in them executing any plan. That includes the likely, corroborated by several media sources, plan of appeasing Don as much as possible.

The Donovan and friends era will be a disaster.

Unfortunately I think you're right. In a perfect world where we could make decisions freely, I still prefer to keep building around Don+Rudy and trying to win while we can. But I will admit that the further we're removed from the "appease Don" plan the better, and that might have involve a trade before more damage is done. It's too bad that Don and Friends is going to be the path forward.

I stopped listening to the Locked on Jazz podcast. Locke spins numbers to try to validate something that we with our own eyes see in the games is not true.

Mitchell and Banchero could be a winning combo, but I don't see how we get Banchero without trading Mitchell. Heck, we might not get Banchero even if we do trade Mitchell.

This assumes that both players eventually play average defense and are surrounded by long, athletic 3D players.

Its getting harder and harder. He does spin a lot of things and he does push a team narrative that he doesn't actually believe. The thing I find hardest to listen to is Locke's worship of Quin. Quin can do no wrong in his eyes and to suggest such is crazy town and you are a moron.

He's in a spot where honesty doesn't pay... if he was as direct and honest as Andy Larsen he'd have been let go.

If JB gets traded, it would be a selling low scenario. I'd prefer he stays, and may be needed if we trade Mike. At a minimum, start him and boost trade value.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble but the player drafted just ahead of him, the Utah State center, was given a two way contract and sent to the GLeague for the season by the mighty Kings.

And your point being? Late picks are hit or miss, Butler dropped due to potential health issues, which seems to be managed.

Maybe they can't get a lot for him, but it is still bad business to sell low.

I think ideally JB murders it in summer league and we realize instead of throwing cold water on him maybe we should move Mike/Jordan to let the kid play... or he increases his value by averaging like 30 a game there.

This has crossed my mind. It is the best explanation for how the org went from over the moon to suddenly that he doesn’t fit what the team does.

… howww does that happen?
Man, y'all come up with any sort of reason to hate on Donovan.

Butler didn't play because Don, Conley and Clarkson were better and the last thing we needed was another undersized suspect defender out there.

Donovan loves his boy Paschall, but he didn't play hardly at all. Donovan had zero pull on his playing time.

Y'all are looking for scapegoats. It starts with Quin.

I'd be furious if they just released him or traded him for a second. They stuck with Miye, Brantley, and Ellijah for 2-4 years but JB only gets 1.

Just because a player doesn't project to get playing time doesn't mean we need to get rid of him in some form or fashion. (not yelling at you... more the Jones idea of he won't play here) You keep the player because injuries happen. If he is buried on the bench and pissed about it so what. We have released players that fell out of the rotation and then later had injuries that they could help with.

I just think they managed JB poorly. Once he adjusts to the three point line he's going to be really valuable. The defense wasn't awful it was just a lot of rookie mistakes... fouling and being out of place at times... he gets a lot of steals as well as blocks and rebounds for a guard. The rookie mistakes get ironed out with experience... just wild Quin couldn't "downgrade" from Forrest to JB for a few minutes a night to invest in that player when GS, Memphis, Denver, etc. all seem to find time for those guys.

What? 6-3 for a pg is good length. He also is one of the better defenders on the team in man on man. He’s nothing close to a suspect defender, and he should’ve played ahead of Forrest. Look, Forrest does some things well, but when one of your weaknesses is shooting, and he’s probably… arguably the worst shooting pg in the nba. Butler should’ve got minutes over Forrest.
