What's new

Game Thread Apr 16, 2022 11:00AM MT: Jazz at Mavericks - Game 1

Added to Calendar: 04-16-22

Hans olsen was going over some numbers from the jazz vs mavs regular season this year. Clarkson shot 45% from 3 against the mavs and played in all 4 games and averaged over 5 attempts per game! Royce shot 47% from three against the mavs in the 4 games on just over 3 attempts per game. Bogey was very good as well shooting 42% from 3 in three games against the mavs and averaging about 22 points.

There's no chance that Dinwiddie and Brunson generate enough offense to counter Mitchell, Conley and Clarkson.
There's no chance that Dallas' big wings get the same open looks they're used to without Luka collapsing the defense.
There's no chance that Davis Bertans, Josh Green and Frank Ntilikina out-produce the Jazz's bench.

The narrative after this series is going to be about how Luka really needs a #2 star playing next to him.

Frank Dinwiddie and Brunson are going to kill against our swiss-cheese perimeter D. Granted we have some pretty solid swiss-cheese D, but it's still, you know, swiss cheese.

Um, no. House can slow down Dinwiddie. Brunson isn't a guy who can score 30 on a good team. Frank Ntilikina is a non-scorer who averages 4 ppg. Try again.

Edit: Now Frank Ntilikina is listed as OUT on the injury report. Guess it will have to be Josh Green or Sterling Brown taking his place.

You do realize you are playing the Dallas Knicks, right?

Tim Hardaway Jr.
Frank Ntilikina
Trey Burk
Reggie Bullock
Theo Pinson

Because we don't exactly make the playoffs that often, our guys are hungry. You Jazz are going to get chewed to pieces and swallowed.

I just don't want Clarkson or Mitchell on Bertans. Nether of them can pay attention long enough through a defensive possession to keep connected with him.

Yeah, that's why Jazz are so confident. Not as confident though since THJ and Frank are out with injuries.

If you think our perimeter D can do anything to slow down an active wing, well better try again. Swiss-cheese defense won't get it done.

Let's say the Mavs go small. Let's say they put Brunson/Dinwiddie/Bullock/DFS/Bertans on the floor. Or they could go even smaller and put Brunson/Dinwiddie/Green/Bullock/DFS on the floor.

The first thing that jumps out at me is that they're not the Clippers with PG, Batum and Morris all being 6'9" / 225 lbs. So they're not as long and imposing defensively. Our guards can attack them.

The next thing is that they aren't a very good rebounding group. Among them, only DFS averages over 4 rpg (4.7). The Jazz should be able to attack them on the glass.

Next, is that the biggest player on the floor is only 225 lbs. Our bigs have to punish them at the rim.

The tricky part is the question of who Rudy is assigned to guard. If Kleber or Powell are on the floor, Rudy will guard them and dare them to shoot from deep. If Josh Green is on the floor, Rudy will guard him and force him to become a volume shooter. If Bertans is on the floor, it becomes trickier because everyone on the floor will fire away from deep without hesitation.
