Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Rewatching Kas and I still think he is a lead guard in the NBA. He can lead an offense. He might be the best player in this draft at getting the offense moving and flowing. His athleticism concerns are overblown. He's crafty enough and quick enough to make whatever he lacks work. Maybe he has to go to the right situation/scheme for that to work, but he's really good at it and is still very young.

The real concern is his shot making. Yes he had to generate more offense for himself than he probably should have, but his shot just didn't fall enough. Going from watching Tre hit incredible shots every single game to Kas missing so many was kind of eye opening. As much as I love Kas and I'm excited to see him in the NBA, I think I have to officially drop him out of the Tre/Ace/VJ tier.

Man, I'm not getting very much accomplished at work today.
Sad to see you hop off the Kas bus lol. I guess you started to doubt his shooting ability. To me, there are a lot of signs that he will be a good shooter in the NBA. He's got solid mechanics, sank 85% of his free throws, and shot well in many games before the shooting fell off (not sure if his arm and hand injury had anything to do with this). At just 18 years old, he’s already versatile, an excellent facilitator, and a pretty good defender overall. And I especially value that he plays physical, likes contact, and gets to the free-throw line and the rim. The kid is also pretty strong, 205 pounds now, and could eventually get to around 215 pounds when he adds muscle. Kas is still #3 on my board, just before VJ, Kon, and Tre. I think Ace is a bit of a gamble.

You want a glimpse of the future? Here you go:

1.Jazz draft Fears at 5 with Ace still on the board. Jazzfanz threaten to burn down some Waymos.

2. Washington takes a flier on someone most of the board has ranked later. Also skip Ace.

3. At pick 7 there is a trade announced. Jazz are sending Fears to New Orleans for 7th pick and slight future considerations. They are now on the clock.

4. Jazzfanz excited. Danny gets his guy in Ace AND extra stuff.

5. Jazz select Kon.

Write it down.

Tre's rebounding is fine if being 29/30 is fine. Just like his FTr being 28/30 is decent. Standards don't apply to Tre, anything and everything is just fine. I would be more receptive of Tre arguments if they didn't come off as complete stan behavior. He's a great prospect, I don't think he needs stan behavior to justify his case.

This is probably more important than max vert or the other max athletic measurements. Functional athleticism is about how quickly a person can execute movement (either as initiator or in reaction) 95% of the time.
(this is the difference between "white boy" athleticism and real athleticism in a lot of instances. I say that because it feels like white players have the highest hit rate of being "surprisingly athletic" based on their max vert which you can train for, gut out, and also sandbag your standing reach to maximize. The problem with that, of course, is that you don't have all the time in the world to load up to jump as high as possible for every movement. Grayson Allen had some incredible vert testing but that has not really shown up in a game. Same with Podz. Knecht was supposed to be athletic but he has to load up. VJ is quick to launch. A world of difference functionally)

LMAO, you really are a blind homer. I should have qualified it as for guards, but the only guard that had less assists is Jase.

Because Tre is the only primary scoring 2 guard on the class. His assist rate shouldn't be comped to role players and point/combo guards

He is also ahead of Nolan Traore in rebounds. As long as you have one guy you're ahead of, it's fine.

Truthfully I don't really care how much my guards rebound, except that it has been shown to be a positive indicator of NBA success and points to some functional athleticism. I also don't think that Tre is a bad passer and I think he will be fine and with some coaching could even be good.

That was pretty much my point with my original post. Tre's other stuff isn't so bad that I worry about him not being a good NBA player, but if he is going to be a star NBA player he needs to improve in some of those other areas.

Ironically rebounds have been a pretty neat hidden "metric" for guards. A ton of undervalued guards/wings in college/the draft, who went to have great NBA careers have had very high rebound rates.

Tre's rebounding numbers looking so subpar is mostly due to him never offensive rebounding, which is likely by design

Rebounds matter to me, but even if they don't, I think you should be able to call a spade a spade and admit that they are low. Same goes with Tre's other stats. Like I said before, I don't think Tre needs stan behavior to be considered a good prospect. He's good enough where we don't have to treat him like this special snowflake where any kind of pushback must be dismissed because of his role, team, schedule, etc.

I like Kas a lot....but I won't pretend like his steal rate is high and make the most ridiculous excuses for it. I'm OK with identifying some flaws in a player I like.

Call a spade a spade, but rebounding numbers are some of the most contextual numbers there are and the people looking to fade Tre aren't providing any additional context outside of raw per game #s
