Likes are super lame, y'all.

Rep is superior, since you have the ability to write a comment too, which is the best part of receiving rep.

And having likes alongside the rep is just diluting rep.

If we're gonna keep Likes, at least add a "Likes: X" thing in my postbit.

I agree with all of this.

Sometimes I get notifications and I get excited because it's a like notification. Then it says "Enes CanTear You Apart liked a post by blah blah".

Seriously? I know if I liked a post or not, there is no need to notify me for that!

Why is this happening? It would be better if it wasn't happening and getting me excited for nothing.

Having dealt with them both for a little while I think having both is overkill. Either one is adequate. Liking a post is esier but repping a post is more fun due to the message you can leave. So for me it is a toss up but we only need one.

I suspect that happens when you like a post AFTER someone else has liked yours. The notification flag gets set by the other person liking your post, but when you look at the notification you see the one that you liked because they are listed chronologically. The other one is still there, just not on top.

I actually kind of like them both (no pun intended). If I just want to indicate support/approval/whatever, then I can click "like" quickly and easily. But if I have something to say, then I can leave a rep comment.

I often like to "like" a post to give that person a little public support for a good post. The rep system is more personal and it's also limited, so it's a step up from the like feature.

Thanks for a possible explanation and it's probably the case.

Apparently I got a like(12:46) just before I liked a post(12:47). Now I feel kinda stupid.

OK. Works for me.

No problem. I had just noticed the same thing a day or two ago, and initially thought something was broken in the system as well.

I loathe the like button

From my perspective, the rep system has been bad for the board. It's function is murky at best -- is a member reputable because they have good sports knowledge? because they're funny? both? And the way it's accumulated magnifies this murky-ness. Really, what clear function does it serve?

If I had my way, I'd wipe out the rep system and institute two like buttons. One for liking sports content, and one for liking humor. This provides an important value for lurkers and new comers as they can see where board opinion really is. I think the current system discourages new comers in its propensity to develop cliques and homogeneous inside jokes. Rep has also been used as a bullying tool. And, my god, the pandering has reached an all-time high. Embarrassing.

I think of the rep system the same way I think of Al Jefferson. I understand why it was tried, but can't wait for it to end. If this is a good analogy, then what better time to end it?

This is pretty amazing insight from someone who allegedly doesn't care about rep. I did a quick search to back up your claim about "not caring" and was shocked at what I found:

question for everybody:
How did Colton get 70 reputation points? I looked through probably 100 of his posts and found absolutely nothing insightful. Please inform me, thx.

Thanks. I gotcha... artificially inflated number.

Now, inform me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the case that if someone with a higher reputation power neg reps you, then you receive a larger subtraction than if someone with a lower reputation power negs you?

If so, isn't it extra douchey that Colton uses his rep to enforce his own ethics?

^ if I weren't here to play the *******, yall would rep that.

Early Jazzfanz Award result:

[size/HUGE] fixed [/size] wins this thread: collects three pos reps from the most insightful posters, gets a moralizing neg rep from Colton, receives an infraction for his contributions.

Colton gave me a sweet neg for my behavior in this thread. A false -70.... like a little bitch.

That wouldn't be a bad idea if everyone's rep power were legit. Too bad.

This one isn't about rep, but it is an amazing example of how desperate you are to be liked and/or accepted/envied.

I was married for 5 years. Not my thing. Right now I'm having more sex than I ever dreamed I could, and with some incredibly hot women. I don't expect you to actually believe me. I'll tire of this when I tire of it. I feel no rush.

Even if you are laying pipe on a bunch of hotties, what kind of person actually thinks that bragging about it on a forum where they are universally disliked, is a sure-fire way to gain cred? You need some religion in your life, bro.

Anyhow, back to how much you don't care about rep:

Thanks the neg Hantlers. I'm glad you got one more in before your next hiatus. It's been rich listening to you talk about ethics n ****.

And these are all within the last month. Your toolery knows no bounds, it seems.
