Trade deadline discussion

Saw this one I kind of liked from an OKC fan.

Utah In: Kenrich Williams
Utah Out: Ingles/Gay/adjust the protections on the '24 pick (top 4 protected or something) so it either conveys or turns into 2nds/pick swap in '26

OKC In: Ingles/adjusted '24 1st/'26 pick swap
OKC Out: Kenrich

DAL In: Gay
DAL Out: Maybe a 2nd to Utah

We get under the tax line, get somebody cheap who can play and all it really costs is a '26 first swap (I'd push for some light protections). Not sending Gay to Siberia is also a nice plus, don't want to do him too dirty after signing with us.
I’m over the moon with it except have no idea why we’re trading Gay.

15%?

Give or take. Weren't the only clear teams that had significantly better shots (according to Vegas) at the start of the season the Lakers and Nets? And time has proven that Vegas was probably too high on them. Certainly at the end of November, the Jazz were as much in the mix as any of 5 or 6 other teams.

Not to mention that he's an Azubuike-level rebounder?
When Gobert is out are there even any rebounds? No!

If he is on the floor with Gay and Williams we will be fine. His defensive rebounding is okay... he doesn't get many offensive rebounds because he's 30 feet from the hoop banging threes.

Can't tell if you're talking about Muscala or Williams here. Or shifting from one to the other?
I was saying you might say a guy has a terrible injury to help explain why he isn't playing more if you were tanking. So talking about Muscala. We only need 15 minutes a night from him anyway.

They only play Kenny 21 minutes a night when they should be giving him 48. The injury with Muscala makes it look like they have a little integrity rather than just tanking **** hard.

You might be right about being fine. I just think it's worth the discussion and getting the facts out there.

Muscala is exactly at Azubuike's and Gay's level of defensive rebounding (Whiteside is 50% higher). Williams is closest to (though a bit higher than) Trent Forrest level (among Jazz players).

The defense without Rudy is hot garbage again... I just say eff it... outscore em. Any stops we get are gravy.

Duck the tax so we can avoid going into the repeater next season (lol that time we were like a couple 100k over).

Of course if we're sold on Gay as the 7th-9th guy that puts us over the top we shouldn't send him out.

This report from Marc Stein on the Jazz doesn't sound promising. Says there is internal instability that stems from a growing suspicion that Ainge wants to make major changes. Also says it's a borderline soap opera right now.

Wow. Just when things looked bad, we have drama. Maybe that explains Don and Rudy being held out longer than expected.

OK; I see what you're saying, even if I don't totally buy the logic. We can disagree on whether Muscala's injury has any effect on Williams's playing time (or justification thereof).

Nah... those are both legit. Calf injury is a minimum 2 weeks... Donovan had a specialist check him out today... those guys are really hurt.

It doesn't... I'm not being very clear so its not your fault. I'm saying you put it out there that Muscala can't play and it takes some league heat off of you for not playing your best players more. (its a legit injury but very convenient)

Remember the SGA plantar injury.

If they were sitting both Muscala and Williams more than they should with no health explanation it looks a little worse. I still can't believe the league stepped in with Philly and lets OKC openly do whatever they want. I'm cool with it but its a wild double standard.

Kenny is the main course. I think Muscala is the dessert... and the dessert could be really good for us. We need a non-whiteside option in the playoffs. We just do.

Oh Jesus, we’d still be over the LT? Yikes.

Would much rather find a way to dump Hassan and Udoka but that’s asking a lot.

Gay should fetch two 2nds if that’s the case… but I’d still be very reluctant.

We can target any combination of the following:

Marcus Morris.
Marcus Smart.
Jason Hart.
Kenny Rogers Roaster.
And I’ll even add Moose for the hell of it.

Sign any combination of House, Dunn, or Ekpe.

Include as many used condoms as necessary to make any of this happen.

Tell Snyder he must confide in a coach superior to him and ask for honest feedback, then implement it. Also require him to save his used condoms for the above.

I get your point, and I know the OKC funny business well. I'm just perplexed since you're seeming to say that Muscala's injury seems to cover for Williams's playing time somehow.

If you're saying that the heat is coming from the league, I'm not sure I'm buying that. I think heat from the league comes only when they shut guys down (except maybe in the rare case of an Anthony Davis type talent; it might move into the playing-time realm then). I doubt OKC is feeling heat from the league from not playing Kenny Williams more.

But we've both made our points. We disagree partially. That's fine. There's probably not much more to say at this point.

Its a terrible argument on my part. I mean if they were going to get heat it would be when they just straight shut down Al Horford last year.

Its wild that OKC actively tries to suck but they have a functional good environment and end up winning too much at times... and then teams like the Kings try to be good and short cut as much as possible and yet only a couple games separate the two.
