What's new

True Detective

The brown car angle interests me most right now. Black guy, white girl.

My brain is working OT on this but I need to stop because I know it’s gonna be a big letdown like season one in this regard.

What was the letdown in season 1?

Personally, I found the resolution somewhat dissatisfying, which is actually OK, because life can be that way. What I didn't like was the very final bit when Rust was in the hospital. It seemed forced. And then, of course, there was the dialogue ripped from Alan Moore, which, again, cool, but why the hell was Rust being optimistic?

I like the ending.
Endings are always the hardest part of a story for the author. I thought that one was well done.

My recollection or take was that it was more of a concept. It/He changed over time. The lawnmower man seemed to be at that moment but more specifically speaking (or generally I suppose depending on your lense), it was an entity who’d carried out his acts for a couple of decades, as a cycle (that show loves circles) of abuse if you will.

Speaking of circles... did anyone notice that the clocks in the police station were square analog clocks? I don't think that was an accident. Just sayin'.

Haven’t watched the fourth episode yet. I’ll probably do so tomorrow.
My buddies only mentioned that the direction seemed different or off. Then they mentioned Pizz directed it. Dude seems to have quite the ego from what I’ve read on him and observed in interviews with him.

Not a great episode - there are a couple of scenes between Hays and his wife that go nowhere and kill the pacing.

There were some humorous moments that seemed uncommon and a bit out of character for the series and I wondered if there was a different director.

Watched it last night. It was fairly solid but unspectacular. At this point, I fully expect it to end with some semi-vague **** that it was institutional (probably the church) and that neither the lead nor the audience discovers the absolute truth, and that thematically, this season is about the detectives and how they’re haunted their entire lives by an unsolved case, like I’m sure dicks are in real life.

Ali’s wife is pretty much a selfish, whorish, devil.

And I fully expect that at some point we’ll learn everything that we’ve seen will be shown to be a misrepresentation of what actually happened given Ali’s dementia, which started pre-1990.

He’s our lens and a narrative is really only as reliable as its’ narrator, even if it’s not from his actual perspective.

Everyone watch episode 5 yet? Very solid. Dorff was a little shaky in the first episode or two but he's started to semi-shine. Make sure if you watch, to keep a close eye on the details during the 2015 docu scenes. Really makes you wonder.

Something is up with his wife for sure. I'm sure there's plenty we don't know about her yet.

Plus, the most virtuous woman ever on True Detective cheated on her husband with his partner (Woody Harrelson's wife). So I expect some twists in the next episode or two.

People all caught up? I liked this week’s episode a lot.

Feels like they’re not super close to a resolution with only two episodes left.

Really?

I mean, I assume there is some kind of twist, but it seems obvious Hoyt Industries runs some kind of pedophile ring and they have a lot of the town bought off.

Some interesting lines and scenes this week.

IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN EPISODE 6, I WOULDN’T KEEP READING.

When the documentarian made the comment about someone disappearing in a quarry, she looked damned upset for some reason. Could Harris have been her father?

When Dorff looked out the window and said there wasn’t a car out there, it felt like he was lying. Was there? Or is it his car that’s usually the one out there?

When Harris commented on Hayes’ conditioning. I assume the former is gay. Maybe had a relationship with the dad. Seems likely to me and that Harris tries to get him out of the Pink Room but the dad ends up killing Harris. Maybe he then calls Hayes and Dorff for help at Hoyt’s house and they help him get rid of the body?

Maybe most notably, when the runaway looked out the window and saw the young man get out of the truck. No reason to show that scene unless it’s of some significance imo. And if you noticed the name on the side of the truck, it’s significant. Especially since two seconds later the runaway comments on girls disappearing or something.

I’m assuming there’s some kiddie porn/kidnapping ring and that Hoyt is one of the figureheads of it. Seems obvious. Trying to tie everything together.

Here’s what I’m thinking.

O’Brien was a creep. Had been ****ing Lucy since they were kids (hence milestone comment)...he’s the father of the girl. But I don’t think he’s involved.

Lucy likely wanted money. Maybe told kids to go to woods. Hoyt creeps were there. Boy tried to stop them and was killed. Mom placed him in communion position. Girl somehow escaped in woods and realized she couldn’t go home because of mom. Went to Hoyt because he’s powerful and can help people. Brought her in. Pink room. She eventually escaped, went to the shelter, and met up with the Ardon kid (truck) who was the boy who liked her when they were little kids. She lives with him. But she’s had a ****ed up life, they’re poor, it explains the shoplifting. She also calls the hotline because she’s found out Purcell is not her dad. Dan O’Brien was her real dad. Hence Lucy’s parents comments at the funeral in episode 1 and O’Brien’s comments at the diner about sharing a milestone with Lucy.

Sounds likely. I think they're also going to tie the pedo ring to season 1 as well.

Btw did y’all notice Rust and Marty in episode 5?

Or Carcosa on the walls in episode 6?
