What's new

whats wrong with this world

Why? Because they require that they be fluent in the language of the country the wish to become a citizen of? Good. Doesn't say they cannot speak their language or be proud of their heritage. Just that they have to have the ability to speak the dominate language of the country they are trying to join.

When I lived in Honduras it was my responsibility to learn Spanish. Not for them to accomadate me and learn English.

Edit: The ban on face veils in France is dumb.

This is a complex issue that I admittedly don't know much about, but from the surface this seems rather reasonable.

Of course, I think it gets tricky with old people who get to the Netherlands at an old age-- if they can;t learn the language, does this mean they don't get proper access to things like welfare?

So yeah. I dunno.

maybe, but not everybody could learn a "new" language.
and seriously learning dutch is on of the most difficult languages to learn.
especially prononciation.

SO yeah stupid law if you demand an old woman to learn fluent dutch. while her whole family became fluent in dutch.
so sent her back and keep rest of family.

this is just nazi-holland enum nazi germany in the 30's

We should kick the dutch out of our hemisphere. They sound like such douche bags when they try to speak a proper language.

seriously time for the world to burn.
and a new world to rise from ashes a new world and ideal world.

Seriously, I wish nations would be more embracing of the variety of culture and languages that come from around the world.

When I went to England, I wasn't about to re-learn driving just so I could "fit in" to their arbitrary paradigm. The way they reacted you'd think I had run someone over.

I disagree with sending her back to where she came from but I am ok with them requiring that to become a citizen. If that woman wants to realistically be hired then she needs to have the ability to converse with management, fellow employees and customers. Unless she is lucky enough to find a company that can accomodate her.

Language changes I would like to see happen in the US:

English profeciency in order to become a citizen or permanent resident.

All school age children (Kindergarten - 12th) be enrolled in a language class and take that class every year. Give them options such as Spanish, Chinese, German, French and Russian. Then they and all the others that chose that class have to take it every year till graduation. The more personal connections to other cultures and ability to converse with them the better and stronger America will be.

I have meet people from eastern european countries (such as Moldova and Romania)and they tell me that they are all enrolled in an english class at school and are taught to be profecient in it. I think they have the right idea but limited options.

Yeah, it's hard for us in North America to understand. It's just that Europe has generations of entrenched nationalism-- and having 2 world wars definitely doesn't help. Nationalism, and their perception of pride is simply different than ours (see sports riots, etc.), and centuries of establishing/fighting for their national identity has resulted in pretty much what we see today, with nations like France fearing that their culture will be dissolved if they don't control the expression of alternative cultures, like the muslim burka or something.

Наистина, защо трябва да говорим на език който местните разбират?

I think teh **** is pretty dumb. What's next, the they force you to be the same religion? If someone doesn't speak your language it isn't a huge deal. It just takes a little more time to communicate using symbols and body gestures. Both groups of people should do their part to understand each other more, but the whole "you have to learn or you get kicked out" thing is dumb.

Bulgaria shouldn't be a country either. Unless the locals speak English then it's already being phased out anyway. We should just start calling English what it is...Earthish.

With the fast rate of English words being infused in the language replacing perfectly good native words, it wouldn't take more than 10 years for it to disappear. Which would be moot, if Putin decides to "referendumize" them before that.

Why do all these people want to move to countries where they can't communicate with the majority of the population? That seems like hell. If I was moving to Mexico for the rest of my life and I never learned Spanish that would be a horrible existence.

You'd learn Spanish as you should.
