Jazz going after OJ Mayo

I'm just sayin, look at his post-all star stats.

19/4/3.5 in 35 mpg while shooting 46% and getting to the line 6 times a game. Those are pretty damn good numbers, plus he plays good defense.

As for reminding you of Hayward...he's not a good 3 point shooter, he's a good slasher, and he must be pretty decent at creating since the Bobcats didn't really have a PG that did too much for them. I think he's a lot better than people realize.

Funny you mention "look at post all star numbers" and mention Hayward's not a good 3 pt shooter because he shot 44.0 percent from downtown after the All-Star break to go with 15.1 points and 3.7 assists in that span.

For the record I would rather have Henderson over Mayo as well, not that I have seen Henderson play much other then when playing against the Jazz but he always seemed to catch my eye and made me wonder why he wasn't playing more (PS I can't stand Duke or the majority of the players that have played there).

Mayo would be intriguing and doesn't seem like a player the Jazz would usually go after so I would have to trust their judgement if they did make a serious run at him. However to me he feels an awful like what Shabazz (or well the SF version if he reached his ceiling IMO) in that talent suggests they should be a good player but attitude/personal issues suggest otherwise.
So again Jazz usually don't take on players like that so if they did I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

The 2014 free agent class looks pretty weak. I can see why the Jazz might try to make a bit of a splurge this year.

I can't. We're not competing this year, so what's the point?

You develop your core, THEN get the complimentary pieces.

Sorry, I should have clarified further. I was referring to Henderson not being similar to Hayward bc Henderson isn't a good 3 point shooter and Hayward is.

Tyreke Evans' offer from NO, probably just set the market for Mayo. Would the Jazz want Mayo for 4yrs/$44m? Their numbers are almost identical:
Mayo = 15.3, 3.5, 4.4, 44%
Evans = 15.2, 3.5, 4.4, 47.8%
I think Pelicans overpaid for an oft-injured Evans. Most games played was 72 in his rookie year. I like OJ Mayo, but don't think he is more than an $8-9m man. The price is just too high now. Thanks Pelicans!!!

I'd pay 4 years 7 per for OJ. So my max would be a 4 year 30 million dollar deal. If he takes it, great! If not, oh well, there will be another Tyreke/OJ next summer.

It sure is looking more and more like OJ is going to take a stab at playing for the Clippers next season after some deal involving Bledsoe.

I wouldn't mind him for the right price and as long as his attitude was good. I've always liked his game though I don't think he was utilized correctly in Memphis. Also, I'd hate to take minutes from Burks so if we did sign him there would have to be some sort of mix/matching going on so we could get Hayward and Burks their minutes.

posted this in the Jazz free agency thread but think it applies here too . . .

Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler will go to the Suns, Jared Dudley and JJ Redick to the Clippers and 2 2nd-round picks to Bucks, sources tell Y

This might take away the Clips as competition to get OJ Mayo.

Clippers are out (Reddick)
Minnesota's out (Martin/Buddinger)
Chicago is out (Dunleavy)

Who is left besides the Jazz? Milwaukee?

Don't know if this is all that's left (I have to believe there's still many more), but if so, it's a recipe for getting him fairly cheap. And maybe Ellis will have little choice but to return to Bucks.

Martin just got 4/28 and is a superior player to Mayo, although older and more injury prone. Seems like Mayo's fair value is in the 6-7 million a year range, we should be in contention.

Damn, talk about underrating OJ.
KMarts been damaged goods for a few years now. OJ is still only 25 with plenty of room for growth.

I don't want mayo but..... the fresh prince is correct.
Mayo is pretty good.... martin sucks and is washed up

The old and "washed up" Martin still destroyed Mayo on every measurable metric last year. The big one you want to pay attention to is true shooting percentage. 60% compared to 55%, not even in the same ball park. Will some team overpay Mayo at 9 million a year? Possibly, no shortage of dumb GMs out there.
