The OFFICIAL don't draft Joel Embiid thread

Uh....there is no height that makes you automatically successful in the NBA......

Nobody said he would be good. BLine just said him being 7 feet tall is special and rare.......which its not....

Its more special and rare than players under 7 feet..... do you agree.

Also how many seven footers do you run into each day?

It is special and rare even if there is 50 of em in the nba (which i dont think there is)

Basically a couple of people think embiid wont be very good.

Everyone else does
Sums up the thread.

This is precisely why you keep a close eye on him, watch him perform in games, and not cast him off as a Serge Ibaka or a ****ing Hashim Thabeet just because "well he isn't dominating offensively, his assists are low, and he just started playing basketball". Those are all arguments that could have worked for Olajuwon on his freshmen seasons, and they are garbage reasons for saying that a draftee won't be a hall-of-famer.

Hakeem was one in a million. Some of it was simply dumb luck.

I don't deny that Embiid is talented(comparing someone to Hibbert is no insult), but to say he could be a Hakeem Olajuwon is saying he's a once in 20-30 years kind of talent. I just don't get that he is.

There are plenty of 7 footers that are drafted each year and never make it in the NBA. Its not rare and it doesn't automatically give you success in the NBA.

How many 7 footers will be taken in this draft?

How many non 7 footers?

Pretty sure if you get the answer right then it will prove that they are rare.

How many 7 footers were drafted last year?

I never said he won't be any good. If he lands in the Jazz lap around 4-5 I wouldn't be upset. My original point is that he has major risks and I wouldn't draft him over Jabari and Wiggins.

Well if that was really all you said in the OP then no one one would have a problem with it.

You made it seem like if you are from africa and 7 feet then we should stay away from him and then started with the thabeet comps.

Saying you would take jabari or wiggins over him is not something that would have made a 15 plus page discussion

I would take wiggins, then jabari, then embiid if i were picking

So is 250 pounds for an 18-year old with a likely minimal focus on strength training still "skinny body frame"? I need answers because I'm starting to think that Beantown is possibly the worst thing to happen to the internet.

So is your point that a 19 year old freshman embiid is not as good as olijuwan when he was killin it in the nba?

I agree with you 100 percent
You are a genuis

There were 7 drafted last year.

Out of the four- 7 footers that were drafted in the first round in 2012 the only one that is doing much of anything is Miles Plumlee.

So that means 75% of them already suck.

Plumlee aint 7 feet.

If he is listed a 7 feet then its incorrect.

He is shorter than favors

Also you say 7 were drafted over 7 feet. Ok i believe it.

How many were drafted under 7 feet? Was it alot more or less than 7?

The title of the thread says Dont draft joel embiid.

You should have said Jazz should draft joel embiid if parker and wiggins are gone

You're misunderstanding me.

A) I think player comparisons (ie saying this player is going to be like THIS player) are inherently flawed, and rarely insightful
B) in my opinion, Olajuwon is the best Center of all-time. Not once have I said Embiid will be as good as him, nor will I ever until he is several years into his NBA career

The reason I even bring up Olajuwon, is twofold:

1) he is a perfect example of a big-man, like Embiid, who showed promise on both ends of the court in his first CONTRIBUTING year of college basketball, despite overcoming adversity strangely similar to Embiid's.
2) he is a perfect example of why premiums should be placed on bigmen that can pass, score, and play defense-- making them worthy of first overall picks even when the likes of Michael Jordan are in the draft.

I said nothing about Roy Hibbert-- in fact, Roy is one of my favourite players in the NBA. The problem with that comparison, though, is that they are truly nothing alike. Watching games of Embiid would make you realize this. Why would you make Embiid's ceiling a player he does not really have that much in common with?

Some of the aren't brand new to basketball and have offensive game, though.

I'd love to believe y'all that he's Hakeem number 2 because y'all watch college ball while I find it mind-numbingly boring, but I went to youtube and the first video when you search for Joel Embiid is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZOTtf5ldtI

I'm confused as to how he looks better than Thabeet did at UConn.

ROFLcopter. Classic LessJim post.

That video was bonkers. I'm supposed to not be impressed by that?

We're seriously going go pretend Thabeet was in that same stratosphere athletically at UCONN? Am I the only one who actually watched Thabeet in college?

on the app. square bizness.

Draftexpress has him listed at 240. I'm not saying he won't grow but a lot of the great NBA centers currently are in the 265-280 range. I currently see him more of just a Tyson Chandler player. A great defender but somebody that's not going to dominate....just a great role player.

And in this draft he better be one of the next great big men in the league to deserve that #1 selection.

You can be a douche bag all you want.

-He actually only 7 ft. There are plenty of 7 footers in the league. Very tall would be someone like Yao, Thabeet, Gobert...etc

I'm saying all you know about him is he's a tall black guy from Africa. You havent watched him play.

Embiid = Tyson chandler?!?! ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahajhaah
