True Detective

So I watched the first 4 eps and didnt HATE HATE HATE them but they were clearly lacking. Is it worth it to finish the last 4? Or should I just watch the last 2?
If you are talking about season 2 then probably just skip it

Not really. Its the most predictable yet confusing plot ever. Like they introduce key characters for a minute then kill them right away or decide to make a character (Stan) who you never see or here about super important once he dies. Or they decide to make a character you saw for 1 minute in an early episode the crime ring leader. Just terrible.

Pretty much this.

I wanted to like it and tried to, but it sucked

I still liked parts of it.

I was kind of emotionally feeling for Farrell's character. I was kind of sad that his last voice recording didn't get sent to his son.

Other than that, I really didn't care who died/survived.

you cold sociopath ...

I watched the whole thing, but would anyone be interested in summarizing the plot for me?

That **** was all over the place. They'd dip their toe in one pool and then dive into a puddle somewhere else.I could tell you basically what happened, but I sure as hell couldn't tell you why and I especially couldn't tell you why it mattered.

Was the basic idea just that greedy SOBs are greedy SOBs?

Yeah, some website did an article where they explained every story line and character arc.

Here it is https://www.slate.com/blogs/browbea...the_plot_of_this_confusing_season.html#return

Doesn't make the show better or anything, but you at least remember things.

It is weaker than Season 1 by a fair margin, but I wouldn't say it's 'terrible'.

I am trying to enjoy it for what it is.

Terrible might be a little heavy handed but season 2 definately was not very good. In fact, if not for the awesomeness of season 1 i might not even watch next season.

You are still early on the show though. It gets worse

Finally finished True Detective 2 last night... Some thoughts (** Spoilers **):

1. I think the writer went out of his way to make TD2 as different to TD1 as possible with the more complex story line, etc. Like it or not it's definitely different.

2. I think the casting of Frank's wife/gf is really BAD.. a real let down... she (Kelly Reilly) and Frank (Vince Vaughn) had absolutely zero chemistry. Robotic acting and was hard to watch at times.

3. There were so many references to the classic film "Chinatown":

- LA detective story setting
- Corrupted officials
- Plot involved dodgy land deals
- Mayor's death by the pool right at the end - the same thing happened in Chinatown as well.
- Both male protagonists died at the end the same way Jack Nicholson died in the movie
- etc, etc... too many to name

4. Collin Farrell really held the movie together. I haven't been a big fan of his in the past but he really was the one shining light of this whole show.

5. Vince Vaughn was OK... not spectacular.

6. Rachel McAdams was pretty good I mean she did her best but I really think the direction was lacking she could have been MUCH better in this.

Overall if TD1 was 10/10, TD2 would be about 7/10. It's not up to the same standard but I don't think it's as bad as everybody made it out to be. They definitely missed a few tricks though like they could have tied the Bird Mask Killer back to the Carcosa story line in TD1 that would have made for a pretty spectacular ending but they didn't..

Oh well... here's hoping Cary Joji Fukunaga takes back the directive helm in True Detective 3 to get this fantastic series back on track.

The story isn't even complex or clever, it's just told in the worst possible way that makes it unclear and confusing.

It was awful. 3/10
