What's new

Favors next season?

FWIW Tony Jones today said that he doesn't think the Jazz are willing to give up a pick to move Burks. If that is true it comes down to either finding a guy (in a trade) they like enough to bring on for extra years or just waiting it out and maybe releasing him at the deadline (or holding on to him). That would seem to limit who they can go after in FA. If they keep Bradley and sign Exum I think they are only 3 million under the cap next year. DL will have to do some wheeling and dealing to find a better fit than Favs. Jones also said he thinks that the only way Favs comes back is if his market is very weak.

Or they could just operate over the cap and find something with the MLE.

I think this is especially true on the perimeter. He still does ok, but he doesn't seem as agile and quick as he was a couple years ago. He could switch everything and really cause havoc out there before. Now he is slow ona lot of rotations and closeouts more like a center (which makes sense since he is a modern center). I wonder if the Jazz plan is to let Udoh play bigger minutes next year and then hope Bradley has developed into a rotation player after that. If not I'm really having a hard time understanding the point of drafting Bradley.

I'm wondering what the Jazz brass thinks of Bradley. I haven't watched him much, but heard that he was progressing nicely.
Sounds like they still want to season him another year, then play him more in 2019-2020.

I'm sure DL has contingencies if Faves leaves. If he stays at a reasonable price point, I think the only thing you have to do is work on individual player improvement and solve for Burks.

Yeah I think Andy Larsen opined that he thought Bradley was still a year away from being a rotation player. He seems to be putting up decent numbers in the G league. I'll be really interested to see if he can develop more from a physical standpoint over his first pro offseason. Right now he is a smooth, yet non-explosive athlete. That can be fine since he is so tall and long, but if he has a little bit more room to grow there as DL insinuated when they drafted him then he could be an interesting player moving forward.

Does the Jazz team have to give 15-25Millions for a backup center?
I think not, especially with Udoh.

Don't use logic here. Everyone knows money grows on trees and the salary cap is 500 billion. Sign everyone!

I have been hard on Favors. However, I see a role for him with us for the next 3-4 years. We could keep him, but I think it has to be under these 2 conditions:

#1 - he makes $10 or less a year. Maybe we could front load a contract like Ingles so it declines while Gobert and others go up.
#2 - he isn't a guaranteed starter. He would start some games due to the matchup and some games when we need to rest Gobert.
I know favors has made a lot of money in his career, but why would he sign for less than $10 per year? He couldn't even go to McDonald's with his kids for that. He got a family to feed.

At 15-25 million, no way. At 10-12 million, sign me up.
