What's new

Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

On a scale of 1-666, how obvious is it that I suffer from manic depression?

People still being big babies about the pick? It's over, he's here, support him and the team, and move on. Here's obviously not going anywhere for the next 7 years

I think we’d see a lot more people satisfied with the pick had we have picked up a KBD. I mean, they even came out and said we were doing workouts for the 61st pick. Hope they had someone in mind...

The 'ceiling' thing gets overplayed a bit. Hayward turned into an all-star and I'm sure was thought to be a lower ceiling guy than prospect versions of Favors, Exum, Burks, Kanter, Brewer, Stevenson, etc. when drafted. Not to mention Joe Ingles is better than all those guys, and it's hard to imagine a player with a lower 'ceiling' than him. Ceiling gets kinda buzzwordy.

Great post!! How many of these high ceiling prospects drafted this late actually pan out? Seems like every hood pick ends up being pretty damn good

This is the one thing about Jazz basketball - more often than not we're a playoff team = later picks.

I'm trusting DL already has a plan to sign a stretch-4.

My main concern with Allen is his lateral quickness. He needs to be able to play defense.

I think as Jazz fans we're hyper-sensitive to lateral quickness after the Trey Burke experience (athletic, fast up and down the court, but lacking lateral quickness = defensive issues).

This article claims Allen's lateral quickness was measured and isn't that bad: "That should also help to ease the defensive concerns about him, which were largely rooted in his lateral quickness, which wasn’t actually that bad when measured."

Please let it be true.

This is fair.

I’d counter it though by saying, given Hayward’s body and age upon draft night, it was obvious he had a ton of room to physically develop. I don’t see that in Allen much at all. Hayward was/is also a bit more skilled and longer too.

Allen just sort of seems like he is what he is. That said, you’re very right about Ingles and knowing how he’s improved, there are nuances and subtleties that Allen can work on as well as certain skills (shooting, dribbling) to make him a really good ****ing player. He also can improve his body, perhaps just not nearly as much as Benedict.

So if Allen’s Body is more filled out then Hayward’s was that’s an advantage for Hayward? I guess Mitchell didn’t get that memo, or am I not understanding what you are saying, if so, explain please.

Are you dense? Or just a ****ing idiot?!

I didn't read through all 35 pages so I dunno if this was posted, but I recommend reading his AMA on reddit. I think he made a lot of new fans with it and he seems like a cool guy.
